Crocheting in public

Hoy por primera vez he sacado mis ganchillos y mis hilos de paseo. ¿Se puede considerar la habitación de un hospital como un lugar público? Al fin y al cabo, entraba y salía gente. Lo mejor de todo es que nadie me ha hecho caso. Quizá la próxima vez me atreva incluso a sentarme en un banco apartado en el parque. :-)

Today I took my hooks and yarns out for first time. Is a hospital room considered as a public place? I mean, there were people coming in and out. And nobody paid attention! Maybe next time I'm sitting on a solitary bench in the park. :-)

De todas las visitas aleatorias que recibe este blog, el 60% proviene de la búsqueda de patrones gratuitos de Hello Kitty. Y al parecer salgo yo como resultado. Para desternillarse. El 40% restante es más variado. Y luego están —¡gracias!— las visitas habituales. Las de diario, vamos; los conocidos.

This blog receives lots of random hits, 60% of them from people searching free patterns of Hello Kitty. It seems this site appears as a result for that search. Lmao. The remaining 40% has more variety. Finally, there are the usual visitors —thanks to you I retain my sanity!

But I find these things so amusing that I'm uploading a pic of my favourite pin, the one I'm wearing on my bag everyday: Stormkitty. ;-)

¿Cómo se sabe que son geishas?

Como soy una envidiosa y he visto que todo el mundo tenía una, me compré otra yo también. Llegó en el correo de hoy. Vi varias que me gustaron en las tiendas de Etsy y al final me decidí por ésta de Coyote Bean, ya que además de que me gusta lo que hace, tenía buenas referencias sobre ella. Además el paquete incluía una revistilla de 1987 de regalo sorpresa. :-D

Una funda para organizar los ganchillos hecha con tela de algodón japonesa. No me pude resistir cuando la vi. Ahora mis ganchillos se pueden venir conmigo de viaje. ;-)

Because I'm full of envy and I saw everybody had one, I bought it too! Was in the mail today. I have seen some I liked at Etsy but finally decided to buy from Coyote Bean. Not only I like her work, I also had good references about it (sorry, Libby, I'm such a copycat!). She included a vintage small magazine from 1987 as a surprise gift. :-D

A hook holder/organizer made with a cute Japanese cotton fabric. I couldn't resist! Now my little steel hooks can travel with me. ;-)

¿A que parece un nudo celta?

Libby me invitó un participar en un CAL* en un grupo de Ravelry y allá que me lancé (como no tengo suficientes cosas a medias...). Por suerte el proyecto de este mes era facilito: un original salvamanteles. Lo empecé a regañadientes, no me gusta tener todo este tipo de labores pequeñas e "inútiles"; bastantes hizo mi madre en su día que hacen que no podamos cerrar los cajones. Pero como me había comprometido públicamente en un alarde de "yo puedo con todo", no me quedó más remedio que continuar. Y, oye, es precioso y pienso usarlo de verdad. Si alguien quiere uno, que me diga los colores. :-D

Doesn't it look like a Celtic knot?

Libby invited me to join a CAL* in our Ravelry group and I said yes -it seems I don't have enough unfinished projects. Thankfully this month's project was very easy: an original weaved hotpad. I reluctantly started it because I don't like 'useless' hotpads/dishcloths, my mother made more than enough years ago and the cupboards at home are full of them! Anyway, since I had said yes in the group forum -yes, I can!- I had no option but to make it. And know what? I think it's lovely and I'm really going to use it. Anyone wants one? Just tell me your fav colour. :-D

Pinwheel Bedspread project

Lo que encontré

Al parecer no puedo tener las manos quietas y me gustan más de lo que pensaba los proyectos interminables. Como me he quedado sin nada que hacer, pensé en hacerme una colcha. Se lo comenté a mi madre y me dijo que teníamos una a medio hacer en algún lado, que por qué no la terminaba. Así que aquí estoy, embarcándome en otro de mis farragosos proyectos.

Detalle

Lo empezó mi tía a principio de los 70 y mi madre lo continuó en los 80. Rescatado del fondo del Baúl de los Recuerdos, estoy decidida a terminarlo... algún día.

Cosas que hacer:
1. Averiguar cuál es el patrón, el hilo y el ganchillo.
2. Hacer y coser las piezas que faltan.
3. Hacer las esquinas de modo que no arrastren por el suelo.
4. Hacerle un borde chulo.

What I found

It seems I can't keep my hands still and I love neverending projects. Not having anything to do at the moment, I thought of making a bedspread. Told it to mother and she said we had an unfinished one somewhere, why don't you finish it. So here I am, embarking on another laborious project!

My aunt started this beadspread in the early 70s and my mother enlarged it in the 80s. I recovered it from the bottom of the Treasure Chest and am resolved to finish it... someday.

Things to do:
1. Figure out the pattern, the yarn and the hook.
2. Crochet and attach missing pieces.
3. Design the corners so they don't trail along the ground.
4. Design a nice trim.

Bolso Rosa

Y un año después, el bolso está terminado. Visto así no parece gran cosa, la verdad, pero me ha costado más de un empujoncito para terminarlo (¡Gracias, Libby!). Eso y encontrar una tela bonita que me gustara para el forro. Quería una que fuera rosa con un estampado de Hello Kitty pero no encontré ninguna que se adaptara a lo que estaba buscando, de modo que al final opté por el camino más rápido y fui a la tienda del barrio. Y encontré este algodón rosa con lunares blancos...

Tan sólo me falta hacerle un cierre (el bolso está totalmente abierto) pero no me decido. Cremallera y velcro están descartados ¿alguna otra sugerencia?

Pink Handbag

One year later the bag is finished. It looks simple, uh? But I need a lot of encouragement to finish it -thanks, Libby!. Well, that and a cute fabric to make the lining. I wanted it to be pink with little Hello Kitties print but couldn't find a suitable one. I ended going to the local store and found this pink cotton with white polka dots.

The only thing left is something as a clasp, but I don't want a zip or velcro. Ideas?

Autumn afghan -pattern

Patrón Chevron o Zig-zag

A petición de Xarochita subo el patrón de manta 'Autumn Afghan'. Es un simple diseño en zig-zag que se puede ampliar tanto como se quiera hasta conseguir el tamaño deseado. Lo descargué de la red pero no recuerdo de dónde.
