This time it is a scabiosa columbaria, as it was planned in the original design:

At the park

It has been a pleasure to knit with this merino and cotton blend, very soft and delicate, with another thirty something knitters (only women) at the KAL organized by the designer, Marisa.

Scabiosa shawl
On the bench

I didn't overstretch this shawl when I blocked it so it hasn't grow as much as the last one. I think it turned out better both in size and not straining the yarn.

Scabiosa shawl

The pattern all knitter must knit (or so it seems), wrongly addressed as sweater because it is just a cardigan. It was painful to finish. So. Boring. The lace body seemed endless, just repeating and repeating and... Neverending!

Lady February Sweater
Back view

It was supposedly to be knitted by mum who is way faster and less whiner than I, but she said she couldn't knit the lace and gave up after making the yoke. Her excuse was she couldn't see the stitch clearly because the yarn was pretty dark so in the end I had to work on the worst part. Ha!

Lady February Sweater
Seamless!

I finished it last February but I hadn't worn it yet. Bad choice: I gained the weight I had lost last year and now the cardigan is too small, the collar is very tight and uncomfortable. I don't like wearing tight clothes nor negative ease trends, so I hope the garment stretchs a little from using it or I would have to send it to exile into the wardrobe again till the next fright makes me lose weight again (crossing my fingers!).

Lana: tres ovillos y medio de Katia Merino Blend azul marino. 55% Merino 45% acrílico.
Agujas: 4,0 mm.
Talla: XXS.

Modificaciones: mangas largas (28 repeticiones).

Needles: 4.0 mm / US6.

Pattern: February Lady Sweater by Pamela Wynne (pdf on Ravelry).
Mods: long sleeves (28 rep).

Will I repeat? I doubt it have plans... for any of my dolls. Adult size, I don't think so. If I knit it again, I will use the basic pattern to knit the lace I fancy. No flaring sleeves.

Marigold
Calendula officinalis

I thought I wasn't going to make it but here I am, 34 years old. The curse of 33 is left behind. Deep breath. Now, I can only look forward...

Among other things, 34 is the code for international direct-dial phone call to Spain and, in Maths, the constant of a of 4 x 4 magic square (as Dürer immortalized in his famous work Melancholia I). Now it also is my age during the next 365 days. Somehow I find it funny that someone before me --someone so talented-- associated this number with melancholia.

As a curious note, today it is my 35th anniversary in Korea, not my 34th!

Happy birthday to all people born in such a blessed day!

Holden The Third

Holden "The Third" Shawl
Sunbathing

Otro verano, otro Holden Shawlette.

Another summer went by, another Holden Shawlette knitted. This one was not planned and has a story...

Last year around these days it was V's birthday, just one week before another special person's bday. For this person I knitted my second Holden, called Summer because it took me the whole summer to finish it. When V came for dinner to celebrate her birthday she saw that shawl just finished before being packed and of course requested one for herself. From then on, she didn't give up. Everytime she visited, she tried to look for it at the yarns corner and reminded me that I promised. This summer even asked me whether I had finished it. I had... but it was hidden in the wardrobe under a pile of sweaters. She is like a child at Christmas!

Classy & delicate

Just hours before my departure I finished and blocked the Rock Island shawl I committed myself to knit during this summer's Ravellenics. Many people warning me of this pattern (difficult, tedious, nerve-wracking) but nevertheless, I made it without any mod in just 12 days! Little I slept and without time for anything else, I knitted for twelve afternoons non-stop watching the games and talking ill about the referees to my screen.

Shades of Grey?

They are super warm! I knitted them in the winter but you know how lazy I am to get projects finished, photographed and packed. The good thing about my feet is they are so tiny that a 50gr skein makes a sock with many, many rounds and even some yarn left! To make them knee-high I changed from small to medium chart at the calf (the lace motif has one stitch more).

Nanner socks
Light greenish grey

I didn't get the heel stitch right. It was supposed to be a nice twisted ribbing but I couldn't make it look like that and I ripped it many times. In the end, I gave up on that. I don't like the bind off either, I carefully bound off loosely with bigger needles but still they are so tight than they cut off the circulation in my legs when I bend them. I plan to rip the ribbing and bind off again with tubular method using the yarn leftovers. But that will be in the autumn, now the wool feels too itchy on my hands.

Mini Wisp

Here is a project I finished just a year ago. I knitted it between April and May, stored it up without blocking nor weaving ends and tried to forget about it. Why? It was too hard to knit. Partly because of the pattern, which isn't appealling to me at all, and partly because of my own feelings at that time. When I am planning new project, I usually look at most popular patterns in Ravelry. Usually, it is love at first sight. However, Wisp was hate.

Mini wisp
Green will-o'-the-wisp

I admit other Wisps I have seen look very beautiful, and you shoud not keep my words at heart and dismiss this pattern. It may be perfect for you! But sadly, not for me. Had lots of problems with fishnet lace. How are you supposed to k2tog when one of the stitches is a yo from previous row?! It was taking forever for a little scarf planned to just use up remaining yarn from another project. Perhaps this is not the best yarn to try out new stitches but it didn't turn well for me.

This entry is dedicated to Merchy, who started this KAL with me but gave up -- and I don't blame her.

Lace

Point of Paris

We only stayed a short time -- I don't think I am going again on a trip with a group. This is the only photo I could take of the meeting: my classmate teacher A's lace. He is making it for his goddaughter who is taking her first communion this spring. Everybody loved this lace. I can understand why!

Tejuca #1

"Monkey see, monkey do" could be my motto. I saw this mystery CAL on Sonieta's blog and decided to join in. I thought I could too. It has been so long since I held the hook that it feels like being at home again. The CAL is designed and held by Angel. So here I am...

Tejuca #1
I'm crazy but you like it! Loca loca loca*

Primera tarea: tejer 80 cuadraditos en 15 días. Ensamblar.

First task: crochet 80 granny squares in 15 days. Join. I have made 45 and there are 6 days to go, I think I am keeping in time pretty well. However, I cannot do anything else! There are few nice weather (=cool) days ahead and still have my socks on the needles...

Scabiosa ochroleuca

Scabiosa ochroleuca
Comfy

Dice Marisa...

This is a shawl designed by Marisa, who says she was inspired both by Estonian lace and Andorran forests, full of bright coloured flowers.

Scabiosa ochroleuca
Wide

There is a species of scabiosa with creamy yellow flower heads instead of purple called ochroleuca. I don't know whether I was more attracted to it for its natural undyed-like colour or for its charming scientific name. Ώχρός (ochrós) means pale in Ancient Greek and λευκός (leukós) means white.

Scabiosa ochroleuca
Long

And so my scabiosa is not a columbaria but an ochroleuca. I stayed loyal to the yarn she advised though: Samarkand from Holst Garn. It feels rough and delicate at the same time but becomes really soft once washed.
