10th Anniversary

Banner-10-aniversario-1

4. No tengo teléfono.

Y no, no hace falta.

♥ (no, no conseguí ver osos)

Me preocupaba conseguir y conservar seguidores.

1 Para quien no reconozca la referencia: It's my party.

Today it is my blog's 10th birthday. Ten years! Who knew back in 2008 when I opened this blog to share my crafts that, a decade after, life would have changed this much and at the same time everything would remain nearly the same. If someone had asked me how I pictured my life on the verge of reaching forty I would never have imagined my current state.

It has been a decade with lots of changes, pain, farewells and heartaches. It seems that I am living a bad dream in an alternate reality and I will wake up some day and realise that everything remains the same as before. Everyday I struggle to focus on the real state of things and accept them.

Back then I pictured myself celebrating the tenth anniversary of my blog in style, just like everybody did, hosting a giveaway among my followers. However, now that the time has come I decided not do that. These days we are just a few here on the blogging sphere since people favour social media and, honestly, if someone I don't like know joins the giveaway just for the prize and wins it, it would upset me. Plus I don't have sponsors or a shop to promote so I cannot really offer anything appealing enough. ;-)

During these ten years many people have come and gone and there are always new readers around. Since I have decided to leave the 'giveaway' for another day, today I will tell you ten random things about me so you get to know me better.

2008-2012
2008-2012

1. Never wear skirts. They are both uncomfortable and useless to me: when cold, wear stockings; when hot, thighs stick to each other; when windy, careful or your underwear will show... I respect those who like skirts and even own a pair for very formal events (secret: I wear shorts underneath), but I am the Jeans Queen. Never wear heels either.

2. Not vegetarian, but don't eat meat. It is not about animal ethics, religion or trend, I simply do not like meat. From time to time I make some exceptions, like family gatherings or other events where I cannot refuse, but I prefer not having it in my meals.

3. Only child and only granchild. There weren't children around to play with when I was growing up so I learnt to read very soon —my grandfather taught me when I was around three or four, as well as how to play cards, dominoes and fill out our brackets for the football pool. I devoured all the books found at home and developed a very wild imagination where my plushies were in fact my long forgotten siblings. Moral of this story: do not have children but if you must, make it three of four.

4. Do not have a phone. I despise talking (and wasting my time) on the phone and besides it makes me anxious. Instead, I love going out for a walk or eat at the restaurant and notice everybody being a slave of their phones but me. It makes me feel free.

5. Do not have a vehicle nor a licence. Never grabbed my attention. I grew up in a family where my mother and grandparents never owned a car or had a licence to drive, so it was very natural for me to walk or take the public transport. And no, it is not necessary. Once I was asked: "if you were offered your dream job, but you needed to drive a car, what would you do?" Easy peasy, my friend: if I need to drive it is not the job of my dreams! ;-)

6. Favourite subjects were Latin and History, most despised Physical Education and Philosophy. I spent my childhood dreaming of entering highschool to study Latin (yes, such a nerd; someday I will tell that story) and I got the second highest marks at the University entrance exams in my school thanks to these two subjects, only surpassed by my best friend and deskmate. As for PE, I often skipped it because "I had come to school to study, not to be trained as a circus monkey" (sic). Warmest regards to all PE teachers out there.

7. Favourite animals are bears, cows and cats, in that order. Before my fourth birthday my family went on a trip to the mountains in Northern Spain and the only thing I remember are the hotel flooded and the town's cattle show. ♥ (no, I didn't get to see the wild bears)

8. Do not like social media. I only use two for very specific reasons: Twitter, as a place to practice Latin —I basically compose bad poetry and talk ill of my neighbour's dog— and Instagram, since most crafting bloggers migrated there and I want to stay in touch. I would rather read blogs.

9. Collect postcards. Written, dated and stamped. I have received postcards from many places around the world, some sent by travelling friends, some from a postcard exchange site. The most rare I got came from Greenland, written in Latin (my precious!), Burundi and Vatican City.

10. Knitting/crocheting is my passion and pastime, not a duty. Every garment not only has to be entertaining for me, but also challenging. I detest working on easy patterns that are meant to be done in a couple of hours. That is not fun at all! I don't plan to make money on them either. I understand those who make a living from crafting or are in need of garments quickly thinking otherwise, but that isn't my case. I love knitting and crocheting intricate patterns with thin yarn, they provide fun for hours and I always learn something new from them. I am not in a hurry to finish them and would rather enjoy the process.

2013-2018
2013-2018

Some of these things had already been hinted on the blog before, others I have never told until now. There is no unspeakable secret (let me save those for me), but I think these are enough for you to get an idea of who is the crazy lady behind this.

At this point I used to apologize for the long and dull entry and thank those who had read the whole post. Getting and keeping followers worried me. Not anymore, though: age and experience (ha!) allow me to be a tad rebellious and clearly say: It's my blog and I'll cry if I want to1. Or keep blabbering on and on.

This is going to be my motto from now on. :-)

I hope you liked today's post and wish you (and my blog!) the best for the upcoming ten years so we can meet again at the 20th anniversary —maybe I will tell ten more things about me. Care to join me?

Thank you for being there all these years.
See you soon!

¡Artista!
      Un besazo.

  3. ¡Ay, chiquilla, que me has emocionado! ¡me apunto! Un besote.

    1. ¡Ay!

  4. Happy blogoversary N.! I discovered so many new things about you and it'slovely getting to know you better.
I love reading blogs and I will never really detach myself from the blogging world - it still has a special appeal to me. I also use other social media, but blogging will always be in my heart, so you've got me here at your's for another 10+ years :)

    1. Thank you very much, Maya! You're always so kind. Social media turns out to be a great tool for communication, but in my heart these personal diaries will always be first. Did you know your blog is one of my favourites? So charming and pretty! It never fails to cheer me up. :-)
      Have a great weekend.

    1. ¡Muchas gracias, Violeta! ;-)
Un besote y feliz fin de semana.

  6. Happy 10th Anniversary of your blog! What a fun post. I enjoyed reading every sentence just like always when you share a new post. My one assertion is that we are not all supposed to be the same. That would be very, very boring.

You are smart to dislike social media. As we've seen recently it can be a dangerous pitfall. (Facebook) We don't put our personal information on those outlets, either.

We're having a delightfully cold spring with a chance of snow in the early morning hours. Have a wonderful anniversary weekend!

    1. Thank you very much, dear Toni! I had fun writing it too and I totally agree with you, what a boring world this would be if everybody were the same. About social media, I never liked the immediacy or the stalking possibilities of it. As I said, Twitter is just a handy tool for practising a language because you get to write short sentences and interact with other students. But no personal information about me anywhere on the net. Heaven forbid!

I'm already getting jealous of your spring. :-) Here the weather is dry and dusty, as always, and my allergy issues are starting to show up too early. Enjoy the snow for me & take some delightful pictures!

Me has dejado locaaaa...

      Besazos, maestra.

  8. Has it really been 10 years?! Time has a way of passing quite slowly and rapidly simultaneously. I felt honored to know of many of the things you shared about yourself, but of course, I loved the way you packaged it quite neatly in your own prose. I am very grateful that our paths have crossed via Blogger, and Flickr, and Ravelry, and now Instagram! Just maybe our paths will cross on a train in Spain. I better start practicing now. I fear I've forgotten it all.

    LYLAS!

    1. Yes, it seems unbelievable that 10 years had already passed. Does that mean we've been friends for 10 years? I can't recall when did it start, before or after the blog, but I remember clearly your first message. :-) Don't tell me you're planning a trip to Spain? Then I better start practicing too or we'll end using sing language and paper to communicate. lol
      LYLAS ♥
