Gaspar

A ver, a ver...

This year I attended the 4th Christmas Swap organized by Valencia Knits on 15 January. We were more than twenty crafters gathered together! There were a few missing, one of them my swap-receiving partner whom I didn't know before and couldn't meet. There aren't pictures of what I gave her but I took a lot of what Ainhoa, my swap-giving partner, prepared for me. She was this year's King Gaspar's page girl who hasn't forgotten me either even if things have gone so difficult for me.

In the beautiful teal (teal?) flowered box, lots of good stuff, all of them wrapped in green (green!) tissue paper. Let's see... I was so excited that I started shaking like a leaf everytime I opened a packet! I was the last member to receive my swap box -- my name was drawn the last.

Simplemente preciosa.

First thing I saw, an apple green envelope with a cute card inside: matryoshkas and forest animals. That girl has read my mind! Colour red things (capes, mushrooms, fox and owl) are actually made of velvet and glued to the card. Simply gorgeous.

A box full of goodies

¡Me encantan!

I opened the first packet and found crocheted teal (teal? oh, like the box!) handbag and matching purse. I fell in love with square buttons because they are pretty and cross-sewn. These are coming with me to my bobbin lace classes so all the students can see and envy.

¡Genial!

The handbag felt tight on my hand: it had a surprise inside. A pattern! A huge striped two-coloured shawl with ruffles around the hem. Instructions are written for two knitting options: you can start from the neck increasing stitches or from the hem decreasing them, as you wish. Perfect!

The most gorgeous shawl patter just for me!

Next packet: a gorgeous Malabrigo skein Aguas which is a variegated yarn in gray, green and dark blue (green!!). Not long before another knitter had received the same gift and I sighed when I saw it, saying "I like that one for me". Amazingly I had exactly the same skein. Do I have superpowers? Does Ainhoa? So luxurious! I started to blush with pride.

Another little packet, this one more square shaped, revealed two skeins of brown Katia Austral (although I thought it was khaki), a super soft blend perfect for a pair of mittens or socks (yay!). At this point I was about to burst!

Mirad, mirad:

The fourth packet was at the bottom of the box and turned out to be a real gem -- I apologize to the other crafters taking part in the swap, nobody can match this. Three skeins of Luxor chunky cotton from Lanas Stop! We had this question "do you need something?" in the questionnaire and I answered "yes, chunky cotton yarn to knit a certain summer tunic with US 9 needles". I had tried to find a similar yarn for months and couldn't find any but a Japanese brand which was outrageously expensive beause of the shipping fare. I cast my die and won! Actually I didn't think my swap partner was to fulfill this request. It took a lot of effort to her to find it and she doesn't want to tell me where (you rascal girl!). I take my hat off to her. Take a look:

My precious!! High quality cotton yarn ♥

But that wasn't all folks. Beside my precious there were some assorted salty pastries from the bakery. Of course, they aren't on the picture because I ate them all for supper that night. Yummy! Really, who wants chocolate when you can have some puff pastry stuffed with anchovies? (yeah, I am weird).

¡Muaaaaaacs! :-)

I came back home as happy as a pig in muck. Glad to have met the girls and shared a wonderful day with them, even if I had to wear broken boots and almost sleep with them on (ouch!). Deeply grateful to my swap partner who surprised me greatly and made the right choice at everything. She lavished upon me. Thank you very much for EVERYTHING! I hope to see you again soon. xoxo :-)

Autumn Sweater Reloaded

I wore it just a couple of times because I didn't feel comfortable in it. It was wide around the chest but too tight around the hips -- ah! my hips. Then mother took her scissors and frogged it. She lacks my lazyness, you see. Following my instructions and having a sweater I have bought as a model, she improved our old pattern and knitted it again without cables and waist shaped. The result is much better, as you can see. I love it and wear it almost daily! :-)

I plan to read her notes and write a pattern someday. It is just a basic sweater with ranglan sleeves and ribbing at the collar, bottom and wrists. But I think may be wise to have it written step by step for future projects.

I won this beautiful wool skein on New Year's Day thanks to Laurakis, page girl of King Melchior, who had a giveaway on her blog for her followers. It is hand-dyed with plants from her garden and handspun 2 ply. Its name is Taco de Reina and is looking for pattern. :-)

A little princess is wearing this

Yet another Baby Surprise Jacket, a.k.a. Cardigan of Cardigans, this time in purple and pink. This one is going overseas too. I hope the recipient likes it. As there weren't any pink penguins I sewed some candy buttons.

Upstairs

Just finished for Christmas. Its new owner had time enough to wear and show off her present from the Magi. In fact, this has been mom's present for her best friend. I would have liked to knit it myself as planned but in the end I must confess I am glad I didn't because it wouldn't have been finished in time if I hadn't swapped projects with her.

Not a tablecloth, mind you

This yarn is very soft and warm, a joy really. Highly recommended. Pearl colour matches all kind of clothes: gray, brown,  black... A shawl suited to wear with dark coloured coats which you can use as a scarf too when the cold wind blows from the North. Also great for warmer weather, over a summer or spring dress. To-repeat pattern and yarn. Total success!

What happened in 2011

A salir adelante.

Y estoy aprendiendo a hacer bolillos. ¡Pero que nada mal! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo 2012!
***
I am not making any plans this year.  I am taking it easy and let things flow. If it has to happen, let it happen. I will learn to accept it and to live with any changes. I will learn to go on. And I will finish my projects before starting new ones thoughtlessly. No more procrastinating. Starting new things is great but also finishing old. Maximum three projects at the time. Will I able to?

Regarding 2011, this was my planning at the beginning of the year and what had happened at the end:

1. Finish the sweater. There is only a cuff left, for Heaven's sake! It's been untouched for a month. That's what I call procrastinating! Finished. It was worn by first time on Christmas Day and was a total success.
2. Finish my second pair of Miss I (ssipi) Socks and please learn how to graft the toe part properly. I have knitted three socks and after some ripping and knitting again I didn't yet. Finished. But still don't know how to graft the toe so I am learning how to knit them toe-up.
3. Take photos of all my gorgeous new skeins. Done. On my Flickr and Ravelry accounts.
4. Weave in all ends and take photos of every FO and list them. In progress. Need to finish a couple of things but this year they will come out from the dark corner in my room.
5. New projects!

-Veyla, with that yarn I got for them. Finished.
-Swallowtail, idem. Finished. Someone wanted to buy it at the Crafting Fair I attended these holidays. Of course, I can't part with it.
-Calorimetry, with scraps. Not yet. Not in a hurry. This will be a KAL with a friend and she is not ready yet.
-Several socks, pattern unchosen yet. Toe-up socks, pretty please. I hate not knowing how much remaining yarn there is in the skein and whether I will be able to finish them or not. Finished. Basic socks for learners. Used yarn from that trip to Germany. Toe-up knitting is really easy. Another step forward to get that Knitting Doctorate.
-Little blanket or jacket - or even both, why not? - for my friends' baby, those who went to Germany. Probably the baby will be a toddler when I have some spare time to knit/crochet something  for him but I will give it my best. Finished. I changed it for a cross-stitched bib. What can I do when all my friends decide to give birth in spring or summer? I can't knit them stuff!
    - Capelet with that super bulky yarn Miso sent me. Finished. I changed it for a poncho. Will probably add a matching beret too. Pictures coming soon.

6. Meanwhile, sew together all the hexagons for my summer bedspread - I have them all! Not yet. They are still single, poor things. I am not in the mood.
7. And make some progress with the pretty cross-stitch Moroccan cushion. In progress. I didn't take any photo because I am a slow embroiderer but I think about half the cushion is done.

Eight out of twelve. That isn't bad, is it? Plus two currently in progress, almost ten out of twelve. Plus I have started learning bobbin lace. Not bad at all! Happy New Year 2012!
