Terminado poco antes de Navidad, su nueva dueña ha tenido tiempo para lucirlo y presumir de Reyes. Ha sido el regalo de mi madre para su mejor amiga. Me hubiera gustado tejerlo, como estaba previsto, pero debo reconocer que de no haber intercambiado la labor con ella no habría estado terminado a tiempo.

Just finished for Christmas. Its new owner had time enough to wear and show off her present from the Magi. In fact, this has been mom's present for her best friend. I would have liked to knit it myself as planned but in the end I must confess I am glad I didn't because it wouldn't have been finished in time if I hadn't swapped projects with her.

Not a tablecloth, mind you

La lana es suavísima y caliente, una auténtica gozada. Muy recomendable. El color perla combina con todo, tanto con grises como con marrones o negros. Ha quedado un echarpe ideal para lucir con abrigos oscuros y con el que te puedes dar dos vueltas al cuello cuando sople el viento del norte. También para entretiempo, como chal sobre un vestido ligero. Patrón y lana para repetir, sin duda alguna. ¡Un éxito!

This yarn is very soft and warm, a joy really. Highly recommended. Pearl colour matches all kind of clothes: gray, brown,  black... A shawl suited to wear with dark coloured coats which you can use as a scarf too when the cold wind blows from the North. Also great for warmer weather, over a summer or spring dress. To-repeat pattern and yarn. Total success!

Holden "Summer" Shawlette

Y van dos chales Holden, esta vez para regalar, en una lana suave, calentita y agradable, tanto de tejer como de llevar. Este lo tejí durante el verano en mi rinconcito secreto al atardecer, cuando empezaba (a veces) a refrescar y se podía trabajar la lana. ¡Tenía que darme prisa pues el cumpleaños era en septiembre!

Another Holden shawl and this one makes number two. It was a present made with a soft and warm yarn, very nice to knit with and wear. It was knitted in the summer in my secret spot at the evenings when sometimes the cool breeze blew and knitting felt comfortable enough. I had to rush because the birthday was in September!

No tejo un tercero de momento porque tengo otras cosas que hacer, pero otra cumpleañera que lo vio recién sacado del horno se encaprichó de él, de modo que tarde o temprano me pondré a ello. ¡Me faltan manos!

I am not knitting a third one because I am busy... yet. Another friend who saw it just blocked fell in love with it and requested one so sooner or later I will be knitting this pattern again. I don't have enough hands!

Modificaciones: empecé la muestra a los 141 puntos, como sugirieron Susi y Eva. Se tejen dos repeticiones en vez de tres y se continua el patrón. Después de la pasada 38, volví a tejer a partir de la pasada 23. Al final tengo los mismos puntos pero más trozo de muestra y menos de punto liso.

Yarn: one skein of Indiecita 100% merino Malabrigo Yarn Sock .

Needles: 5.00 mm (US 8).

Modifications: Started lace pattern at 141 sts (2 repetitions instead of 3) as suggested by Susi and Eva. Switching projects

Mi vida se ha convertido en un auténtico desastre. Desde hace unos seis meses han pasado un montón de cosas y estoy algo ida. Por suerte este verano pude terminar y enviar casi a tiempo tres regalos, de modo que pensé en empezar otro para regalar por Navidad. Fui y compré la lana perfecta, encontré el patrón perfecto y ni siquiera he podido montar los puntos. ¿Por qué?

My life is really messy lately. During the last 6 months lots of things happened and I have been distracted. Fortunately I finished three presents this summer and managed to give them almost on time (lol) so I thought of starting another one for Christmas. I went and bought the perfect yarn, found the perfect pattern and didn't even started to cast on stitches. Why?

FLS now on my needles

Mi madre lleva queriendo un February Lady Sweater desde hace un año o más. Pero ni habla inglés, ni sabe trabajar una prenda desde el cuello hacia abajo, ni entiende los patrones sin costuras y, por supuesto, ni maneja el ordenador. La he ayudado con el patrón traducido al castellano, he calculado los puntos que se necesitan para nuestra talla y lana escogida, he esperado pacientemente todas las veces que ha deshecho el canesú y he revisado los aumentos del ranglan. Y cuando llega a la zona de calados, se planta y dice que no lo entiende, que no puede verlo bien porque la lana es muy oscura y que no lo terminará a no ser que cambiemos el calado por otro más simple (es decir, por uno que conozca de memoria). Le dije que no. Me dijo que entonces lo tejiera yo.

Mother is wanting to make a February Lady Sweater for a year or so. But she doesn't speak English, doesn't know to work top-down, don't understand seamless patterns and, of course, doesn't use the computer. I helped with the Spanish translated version, calculated stitches for our tiny size and yarn, patiently waited everytime she ripped the yoke of the cardigan and revised her increases for ranglan sleeve. And when she reached the lace pattern, she stopped knitting and said she didn't understand it, she couldn't see it due to the dark yarn we had chosen and she wasn't going to finish it unless we changed the pattern for a simpler one -- that means, a pattern she previously knows from other projects. I said no. She said then you knit this.

Así que ahora soy yo la que lentamente está tejiendo el FLS y ella la que está haciendo el regalo de Navidad que yo tenía pensado para una amiga. ¡El problema está en que este otoño me he apuntado además a dos intercambios navideños, clases de relajación y un curso de pintura! Espero que me dé tiempo a acudir a todo. ¡Socorro!

So now it's me who is slowly knitting the FLS and she who is knitting the present I want to give to a friend for Christmas. The problem is I joined two Christmas swaps, a relaxation workshop and a painting course this autumn! I just hope I don't run out of time! Help!

Holden "Esmeralda" Shawlette

Este ha sido un proyecto récord, fruto de la desesperación, la ansiedad y las ganas de hacer algo bonito con esa lana tan suave que llegó en el intercambio navideño. Gracias a Eva y sus consejos (que son también los consejos de Susi) tuve un momento de inspiración y a partir de ahí fue visto y no visto. En una semana tenía el chal terminado.

This project has been finished in record time as a result of desperation, anxiety and the need of making something beautiful with that soft yarn that I got from the Christmas swap. Thanks to Eva and her suggestions (which also are Susi's suggestions) I had the inspiration I needed and started to knit. It was finished in just one week!

It wasn't photographer's best day...

Me encanta el patrón, es fácil sin ser demasiado simple. Bonito y vistoso sin usar puntos complicados. La lana es una pasada (¡gracias de nuevo, Ana!), suave, calentita y fresca al mismo tiempo, no pica y lo mejor de todo: huele a animalito. Sí, sí, sí. Como lleva lana-lana, tiene olor y no se le ha quitado después de tejer con ella y lavar el chal. Igual a otras personas les molesta pero a mí me agrada y me hace sentir bien. Me transporta a mi infancia y al corral de cabritas del chacho Francisco. :-)

I love this pattern. Is is easy but not too simple, beautiful and eye-catching but not complicated. This yarn is awesome (thank you again, Ana!): soft, warm and cool at the same time, non-itchy and best of all, it smells of herd. Yes, you read correctly. As it is 70% wool, it retains the smell and it didn't tone down after knitting and washing. Probably other people would be uncomfortable with it but I really love it and makes me feel good. It reminds me of my childhood and my uncle Francisco's goat herd. :-)

... fortunately not a whole blurry day either...

Y no se me olvida lo mejor de todo: ¡es verde! ¡A aguas! ¿Qué más se puede pedir?

A pesar de tejerlo viendo una nueva telenovela y bautizarlo con su nombre (también inspirada por el color), el mote impuesto a este chal por mi señora madre es el de "Lechuga Rizada", pues es lo que ha parecido hasta el momento de ahormarlo: una bonita lechuga de sanos colores con volantitos de encaje por las puntas. Jajaja.

And I didn't forget the best part: it is green! Variegated green! Is there anything better?

I knitted it while watching another soap opera and named it after it, also inspired by the colour, but my dear mother preferred to name this shawl "Loose-Leaf Lettuce" because that is what the shawl looked like before blocking it: a pretty green lettuce with curly lacy ruffles at the edge. lol!

Este ha sido el último proyecto invernal que he terminado. Hay otros a medias y otros pendientes de hacer fotos, pero eso será ya después del verano. Es hora de preparar cositas frescas para el calor.

This has been my last winter project. I have some UFOs and some FOs to take photos but that will be when summer ends. Now it's time to make some pretty cool garments to face heat.

Thank you everyone for all your supporting comments on the blog and e-mails. I hope to slowly overcome my issues and let time heal my wounds. Baby steps with the help of all. :-)

Swallowtail Shawl - finished

It was a windy day on the flat roof...

Aquí está, terminado, suave y esponjoso, mi primer Swallowtail Shawl (porque haré más, ya lo creo), alias "Corazón Salvaje" en honor a la serie que me ha acompañado mientras lo tejía y que rememoraré cuando vea el color del chal, del mismo verde que los ojos de su protagonista. ;-) Gracias a la serie, he podido contabilizar el tiempo exacto de su ejecución: 2.120 minutos, o lo que es lo mismo, 35 horas y 20 minutos, o bien, 53 capítulos (de un total de 80). Es decir, que tengo 17 emocionantes capítulos para otra labor todavía a elegir. :-)

Here it is! Finished, soft and fluffy: my first Swallowtail Shawl (as I will be making more of these in the future) a.k.a. "Wild Heart" after the TV series I have been watching while knitting and will come to my mind everytime I see this shawl's colour, the same green of the main lead's eyes! ;-) Thanks to the series I could count the exact time it took me to finish: 2120 minutes or 35 hours 20 minutes or 53 chapters (of 80). Meaning that I still have 17 chapters left to make another garment! :-)

Ha sido mi primer proyecto con calados, el primero hecho con mohair (¡vivan los pelitos que corretean por la casa!), el primero con garbancillos "nupps" y el primero que he tenido tirado sobre la esterilla de yoga (pobrecita mía, la maltrato a alfileterazos) cuatro días para ahormar. He aprendido un montón de cosas gracias a la recomendación que en su día me dijo Marisa: "ya tienes nivel para empezar con los calados". ¡Espero haberte dado la razón!

It has been my first lace project, first with mohair yarn (hooray for all that fluff around the house!), first with nupps and first being blocked for four days on my poor & tortured-by-pins yoga mat. I have learnt a bunch of new things thanks to Marisa's suggestion: "you are skilled enough for lace" she said. Hope to have met your expectations!

... and managed to stay still

Mi único pero a este maravilloso chal es el tamaño. Sin conocer de antemano el patrón no me atreví a modificarlo y ha quedado mucho más pequeño de lo que pensé. ¡Me ha sobrado casi un ovillo entero! Señal de lo apretado que tejo. La próxima vez añadiré tantas repeticiones del patrón Budding Lace como considere necesarias para agrandarlo, aunque me canse de él.

The only bad point (because there is one) of this wonderful shawl is its size. I didn't know the pattern beforehand and didn't dare to modify it so it turned out much smaller than I thought it would be. The second skein is almost untouched! I suppose I knit really tight. But next time I will add as many Budding Lace pattern repeats as needed to make it bigger even if I am tired of it.

Swallowtail Shawl

Medio maravillada, medio mosqueada. Es la lana más dulce, suave, esponjosa y delicada que he tocado en mi vida. Y sin embargo, se engancha de mala manera cada vez que tengo que dar marcha atrás los puntos, cosa que tengo que hacer demasiado a menudo para mi gusto. Aún estoy intentado decidir si mi relación con ella es de amor o de odio... con ella y con el patrón.

Green knitting in the Batcave

Half delighted, half annoyed. The sweetest, softest, fluffiest and most delicate yarn my hands have ever touched. But it gets tangled up in a very evil way everytime I have to undo my stitches - and I do have to go back a lot. Still wondering whether I am in love or in hate with this gem of a yarn... and pattern.

Tras la crisis de la mano izquierda llegó la de las agujas circulares. Estaba tejiendo mi Anne Elliot tan ricamente cuando el cable de silicona no pudo con el peso y se partió en dos, de modo que el fin de semana pasado, aprovechando que hacía una visita a la capital, pasé por mi nuevo espacio favorito y me compré un juego de las famosas agujas intercambiables Knit Pro. No tenían del número que necesitaba para la rebeca pero sí del que me hacía falta para un chal que tenía en mente. ¡Ooh! Qué diferencia con las agujas cutrecillas. Antes no quería ni oír hablar de las circulares, ahora estoy deseando cogerlas de nuevo. Son maravillosas… y de color rosa y translúcidas y dejan pasar la luz teñida de rosa. Estoy encantada ¿se nota? Definitivamente me he pasado al Lado Oscuro de la Fuerza las Artes.

After my left hand crisis came the circular needles crisis. I was knitting my Anne Elliot so happily when the cable made of silicon couldn’t hold all the weight and broke in two. Last weekend I make a quick trip to the Capital City and visited my new favourite place to buy a pair of interchangeable Knit Pro needles. The number I needed wasn’t available so I bought another pair to knit a shawl I had in mind. Ooh! So different from the cheap shabby needles I had. Before Knit Pro I didn’t want to use circular needles but now I am willing to hold them again. They’re wonderful and pink and translucent and they let pass pink-dyed light. I’m so pleased, did you notice? I have definitely joined the Dark Side of the Force Crafts.

Textured & Variegated

¿Y qué hay del chal? Se trata del sencillísimo Textured Shawl Recipe de Orlane. Mademoiselle Alex ha hecho un par que me encandilaron, lanzó el reto al aire y me apunté enseguida. Con dos de los ovillos que Libby me regaló el año pasado por mi cumpleaños calculo que me saldrá un chal muy calentito con colores otoñales. Patrón apto para novatos.

What about the shawl? It’s the easy Textured Shawl Recipe by Orlane. Mademoiselle Alex, who has made a couple of beautiful shawls, set us a challenge and I accepted. I think two of the skeins Libby gave me for my birthday last year will make a warm autumn-ish shawl. Pattern suitable for novices.
