Sunrise Sunset - 1st squares

Cuando las noches se alargan y oscurece más temprano, apetece quedarse en casa y ocupar el tiempo en crear algo calentito. Hace un año que mi madre le echó el ojo a esta manta y quince días atrás decidió comenzarla. Tras varios intentos infructuosos, una traducción y numerosas explicaciones por mi parte, he aquí los primeros cuadritos:

When nights grow longer and it gets darker early, it is time to remain at home and employ those hours in making something warm. Last year my mother fell in love with this afghan and decided to start it a fortnight ago. After several unsuccessful attempts, a translation and many explanations, these are her first squares:

Por supuesto, con un ganchillo menor que el que pide el patrón. Estos miden 10x10 cm por lo que toca hacer la friolera de 150 cuadraditos... y no quiere que le ayude.

Of course, she is not crocheting them with the hook the pattern asks for but a smaller one. These squares are 10x10 cm (4"x4") and we need 150 -- and she refuses my assistance!

Star Baby Afghan

Me pregunto por qué sale tan puntiaguda

Hace ya unos cuantos meses que empecé esta mantita con bastantes ganas de probar un patrón nuevo, sin embargo, al pasar las navidades lo dejé aparcado ya que la persona para la cual estaba dirigido no mostró precisamente entusiasmo cuando dejé caer que estaba tejiendo a mano algo para ella. ¡Horror! ¡Si eso ya no se estila! De modo que al no tener ningún bebé más a la vista, guardé las lanas y me medio olvidé de la manta.

Sin embargo, navegando por los blogs de mis ganchilleras preferidas he visto que casualmente dos de ellas (CT y Ashley) tienen el mismo proyecto entre manos en estos momentos. Suerte la suya que las personas que reciban el regalo no van a salir huyendo ni van a poner una tensa sonrisa de compromiso mientras maquinan cómo deshacerse sutilmente de tan indeseable objeto. CT ha propuesto un pequeño CAL para tenerlo terminado a finales de junio. Sigo sin tener próximos nacimientos en mi entorno, eso sí, pero más vale manta terminada y guardada que sin terminar y ocupando espacio tontamente.

Teniendo en cuenta que la cubierta absorbe todo mi tiempo libre (sí, aunque no haya dicho nada, estoy en ello), ¿la terminaré antes de la fecha límite establecida? En 20 días lo sabremos.

I wonder why mine looks so pointed

I started this cute starghan months ago, happy to make something different and new, but after Christmas I stopped working on it because I was planning to give it to someone who didn't look very enthusiastic when I hinted her I was making something by hand. Eww! That's so old-fashioned! As there wasn't to be any other baby soon in the family/friends circle I put the yarn away.

However, reading my fav crocheters' blogs I noticed that two of them (CT & Ashley) were working in that same project right now. They're lucky enough their friends are receiving their gifts with joy and not running away or pretending to be grateful while plotting to get ride of that thing. CT has proposed to have a little CAL to have it finished for the end of June. I still don't know whom I am giving the afghan but I think it's better to finish it off and put it in a box.

The bedspread is taking up my whole spare time -yes, although not posting about the progress I'm working on it. Will I be able to make it to the deadline? Let's check again in 20 days.

Dormitorio otoñal

Anoche le hicimos las borlas y terminamos la manta. Mi madre está realmente orgullosa de sí misma, jajajaja. Aquí os dejo una foto en la que podéis ver que incluso hace juego con el edredón de la cama. Creo que queda claro cuál es mi gama de colores preferida... la otoñal. ;-)

Autumn bedroom

Tassels were attached yesterday and the afghan is done! Mum is very proud of herself hehehe. This is a picture I took of the afghan on my bed, it matches my duvet too. My favourite colours are easy to guess, aren't they? Autumn ones! ;-)

Autumn Afghan -2nd step

Tan sólo pasaba a saludar: estamos terminando cosas pendientes y no hay tiempo para empezar nuevos proyectos.
Mi madre está a punto de terminar la manta de colores otoñales pero no me deja hacerle ninguna foto hasta que esté acabado. Le va a añadir un borde de dos pasadas en color verde alrededor de la manta y después le haremos borlas para que cuelguen de los picos. ¡Como sacado de la Edad Media! Ya tengo ganas de ver las borlitas colgando de mi cama. :-D
Por mi parte tengo entre manos otra mantita de bebé para regalar, pero de momento no puedo dar más pistas. ;-)

Just wanted to say hello. We're busy finishing our projects and there's no time to start new ones.
Mum is about to finish the ripple autumn afghan but doesn't want me to take any photo until it's done. She's adding two rows with green yarn all around as a border and then we'll make tassels to attatch to the peaks. Middle Ages inspired? Can't wait to see multicoloured tassels hanging on my bed! :-D
On the other hand, I'm also busy making another baby afghan to give but at this moment I can't tell you about it or I'll spoil the surprise. ;-)

Lo he terminado este fin de semana y estoy muy, muy contenta, tanto con el efecto que hacen los colores como el diseño. Lástima que sea de tamaño de recién nacido y no pueda usarla, jeje. Ahora tengo que guardarla bien hasta que llegue el momento de darle el regalo a mi prima. Me han sugerido que lo envuelva primero en papel de seda, antes de guardarlo en ningún lado, ¿alguien sabe dónde puedo comprarlo?

Finished last weekend. I'm very very pleased with it, both colours and design totally suit my taste. Bad luck it's newborn size and I can't use it -haha. Now it's time to pack it and save it until the time when I'm giving it to my cousin arrives. I've been suggested to wrap it up with silk paper, any idea where can I find it?

La mantita está casi terminada. Sólo queda por hacer 24 cuadrados pequeños para ponerlos en las esquinas (6 en cada una) , y así eliminar los picos y dejarla totalmente cuadrada. Después quedará hacerle 5 pasadas en blanco y una en color, pero no sé qué color elegir. Podría esperar para saber si es niño o niña, e ir a lo seguro, pero no me apetece, prefiero terminarla y guardarla antes de que se estropee. El verde es demasiado claro y el violeta, según puntos de vista, demasiado "femenino"... ¡Así que no sé qué hacer!

I'm almost done with this! I have to make 24 little white squares and attach them to the corners of the afghan (6 each). This will make the afghan square-shaped again. Then crochet 5 more white rows and another coloured one for the trimming, but the problem is I don't know which one to choose. I'd wait until we know whether it's a girl or a boy, but I just want to finish the afghan as soon as possible before it's ruined. The green is too pale and the purple is also suposed to be girl's colour too... Don't know what to do!

Ayer empecé esta mantita super cuca para mi prima, que va a tener un bebé. No sabe nada, así que será una sorpresa. :-) La lana con la que lo estoy haciendo es muy suave: el modelo Peques de Katia, y está disponible en bastantes colores pasteles (no podía creerlo cuando los vi en la tienda). Estoy muy contenta con la elección.

Cuteness

Yesterday I started this supercute afghan for my cousin who is expecting. She knows nothing about this, it's a surprise. :-) The yarn I'm using is very soft: Katia Peques, available in many baby colours (I couldn't believe my eyes!). I'm very happy with my choice.

Este lo está haciendo mi madre, aunque yo elegí los colores; son preciosos :-D

Le llevó bastante tiempo hacer las ondas correctamente, cometía los mismos fallos una y otra vez, y eso que se lo expliqué mil veces. ¡Es que tanto tiempo sin hacer ganchillo la vuelven a una más vieja de lo que realmente es!

Little afghan

Mi primer intento de hacer una manta. Mide 40 x 40 cm y se suponía que iba a ser de tamaño grande, pero la lana era tan mala que cuando hice 16 cuadros me planté. La verdad es que así me gusta más, porque ahora tengo un asiento calentito para la silla del ordenador para los días fríos del invierno.

My first attempt at making an afghan. It's 40 x 40 cm and was intended to be a big one, but due to the wool low quality I stopped at 16 squares. This way I like it better, because now I have a cute warm cover for my desk chair to use in the winter cold days.

¿Seré capaz de terminarla algún día, siquiera de empezarla, o volveré a dejarla abandonada 10 años? Por cierto, el tapete ya se ha tragado su hermosa madeja tamaño maxi que compré hará un mes y poco. Está llegando a su fin... Ya no será para mi abuela, como le prometí, pero al menos sí lucirá en su casa cuando me mude. Espero que le guste.

Will I be able to finish it someday? To start it? Will I give it up and take it up again after 10 years? Btw, I'm making progress with the big doily and I've used the whole skein bought about a month ago. I've almost finished it. I can't give it to my grandma as I promised her, but at least I will use it in her house when I'm moving. Hope she likes it there.
