El pasado 15 de enero tuvo lugar el
4º Intercambio Navideño de Valencia Knits. En esta ocasión sí pude asistir y participar de la fiesta. Éramos más de veinte tejedoras y faltaron unas cuantas que no pudieron estar, entre ellas mi sorprendida, por lo que no pude ponerle cara aunque a las demás sí. No hice fotos de lo que le preparé a ella pero sí de lo que
Ainhoa, mi sorprendedora, me preparó a mí. Ella fue el paje del Rey Gaspar, que no se ha olvidado de mí en este año tan difícil.
Dentro de una caja preciosa azul turquesa con flores (¿azul?) había muchísimas cosas, todas envueltas en papel de seda verde (¡ah! verde). A ver, a ver... ¡Me temblaban las manos de la emoción al abrir cada paquetito! Fui la última en recibirlo; cosas de la mano inocente.
This year I attended the 4th Christmas Swap organized by Valencia Knits on 15 January. We were more than twenty crafters gathered together! There were a few missing, one of them my swap-receiving partner whom I didn't know before and couldn't meet. There aren't pictures of what I gave her but I took a lot of what Ainhoa, my swap-giving partner, prepared for me. She was this year's King Gaspar's page girl who hasn't forgotten me either even if things have gone so difficult for me.
In the beautiful teal (teal?) flowered box, lots of good stuff, all of them wrapped in green (green!) tissue paper. Let's see... I was so excited that I started shaking like a leaf everytime I opened a packet! I was the last member to receive my swap box -- my name was drawn the last.***
Para empezar, un sobre verde manzana con una tarjetita dentro: matrioskas y animalitos del bosque. ¡Esta chica me ha leído el pensamiento! Todo lo que hay en rojo (las capas, setas, zorro y búho) son pedacitos de terciopelo pegados al papel. Simplemente preciosa.
First thing I saw, an apple green envelope with a cute card inside: matryoshkas and forest animals. That girl has read my mind! Colour red things (capes, mushrooms, fox and owl) are actually made of velvet and glued to the card. Simply gorgeous.

En el primero de los paquetes, un bolsito de mano y un monedero a juego, tejidos a ganchillo en azul turquesa también (¿azul? ¡ah, como la cajita!) y con unos botones preciosos. Cosidos en cruz. ¡Me encantan! Se van a venir conmigo a clase de bolillos para envidia de todas mis compañeras.
I opened the first packet and found crocheted teal (teal? oh, like the box!) handbag and matching purse. I fell in love with square buttons because they are pretty and cross-sewn. These are coming with me to my bobbin lace classes so all the students can see and envy.

El bolsito se notaba muy apretadito al tacto: tenía sorpresa dentro. ¡Un patrón! Un chal enorme a rayas en dos colores, con un volante por el borde. Tan completito que las instrucciones te dan dos opciones para tejerlo: desde el cuello aumentando puntos o desde el volante menguando, para todos los gustos. ¡Genial!
The handbag felt tight on my hand: it had a surprise inside. A pattern! A huge striped two-coloured shawl with ruffles around the hem. Instructions are written for two knitting options: you can start from the neck increasing stitches or from the hem decreasing them, as you wish. Perfect!

En el siguiente paquetito, una preciosa madeja de lana Malabrigo en color Aguas, que tiene unos colores entre gris, verde y azul oscuro (¡¡verde!!). Momentos antes otra tejedora había recibido la misma madeja y cuando la vi suspiré diciendo: "¡ésa me gusta para mí!". Mira por dónde también yo tuve una igual. ¿Tendré poderes? ¿Los tendrá Ainhoa? ¡Cuánto lujo! Empezaba a ponerme roja de tanto orgullo.
Next packet: a gorgeous Malabrigo skein Aguas which is a variegated yarn in gray, green and dark blue (green!!). Not long before another knitter had received the same gift and I sighed when I saw it, saying "I like that one for me". Amazingly I had exactly the same skein. Do I have superpowers? Does Ainhoa? So luxurious! I started to blush with pride.

Otro paquete, este más cuadradito, reveló otros dos ovillitos de Katia Austral en color marrón (aunque en un primer momento me pareció verde caqui), en una mezcla de lana extremadamente suave ideal para convertirse en un par de calcetines o de guantes (¡chachi!). Estaba a punto ya de reventar.
Another little packet, this one more square shaped, revealed two skeins of brown Katia Austral (although I thought it was khaki), a super soft blend perfect for a pair of mittens or socks (yay!). At this point I was about to burst!

El cuarto paquete, al fondo de la caja, resultó ser un tesoro inigualable; lo siento por el resto de participantes, nada iguala lo que viene a continuación. ¡Tres ovillos de algodón grueso Luxor de Lanas Stop! En el cuestionario había una pregunta: ¿necesitas algo en concreto? Mi respuesta: sí, algodón para tejer con agujas del 5.5 para tejerme una túnica de verano. Había intentado encontrar este tipo de hilo durante meses y había sido imposible. Solamente una marca japonesa vendía algo así que me sirviese y los gastos de envío eran carísimos. Decidí probar suerte con el intercambio y ¡gané! Sinceramente, no creí que mi sorprendedora pudiera conseguirlo. Y lo encontró tras mucho esfuerzo y no me quiso decir dónde (¡pillina!). Me quito el sombrero. Mirad, mirad:
The fourth packet was at the bottom of the box and turned out to be a real gem -- I apologize to the other crafters taking part in the swap, nobody can match this. Three skeins of Luxor chunky cotton from Lanas Stop! We had this question "do you need something?" in the questionnaire and I answered "yes, chunky cotton yarn to knit a certain summer tunic with US 9 needles". I had tried to find a similar yarn for months and couldn't find any but a Japanese brand which was outrageously expensive beause of the shipping fare. I cast my die and won! Actually I didn't think my swap partner was to fulfill this request. It took a lot of effort to her to find it and she doesn't want to tell me where (you rascal girl!). I take my hat off to her. Y esto no fue todo, porque junto a mi tesorito había una bandeja con una docena surtida de saladitos y empanadillas que, como es lógico, no aparece en la foto pues esa misma noche me los zampé para cenar. ¡Riquísimos! ¿Quién quiere chocolate pudiendo comer un bocadito de hojaldre relleno de anchoa? (Sí; soy rara).
But that wasn't all folks. Beside my precious there were some assorted salty pastries from the bakery. Of course, they aren't on the picture because I ate them all for supper that night. Yummy! Really, who wants chocolate when you can have some puff pastry stuffed with anchovies? (yeah, I am weird).
Volví a casa más feliz que una perdiz, contenta de haberlas conocido a todas y haber compartido un día maravilloso (a pesar de llevar unas botas rotas con las que casi tengo que dormir ¡ay!), y muy agradecida a mi sorprendedora, que acertó en todo y se pasó de generosa. ¡Muchísimas gracias por TODO, guapísima! Te mando un beso enorme y espero volver a verte pronto. ¡Muaaaaaacs! :-)
I came back home as happy as a pig in muck. Glad to have met the girls and shared a wonderful day with them, even if I had to wear broken boots and almost sleep with them on (ouch!). Deeply grateful to my swap partner who surprised me greatly and made the right choice at everything. She lavished upon me. Thank you very much for EVERYTHING! I hope to see you again soon. xoxo :-)
