Zen cardigan

Este ha sido uno de los proyectos que me ha tenido ocupada durante el mes de agosto y el que ha provocado que, un verano más, incumpla la promesa de "este verano no tejo nada que hace demasiado calor". ¡Pero debo admitir que ha sido todo un placer!

This has been one of the projects that have kept me busy during the summer and made me skip my yearly promise of "not crafting this summer because it is too hot". But let me tell you it was a pleasure to knit!

For zen babies

Es una chaqueta simple, sencilla, ligeramente asimétrica y muy relajante de tejer. ¡Totalmente recomendable!

Lana: ovillo y medio de Katia Austral en color marrón. 50% lana, 50% acrílico.

Agujas: 5,5 mm.

Talla: 3-6 meses.

Patrón: zen cardigan de al·abrigo (pdf descargable en ravelry).

 It is a simple, easy, sightly asymmetric and relaxing knitted cardigan. I totally recommend it!

Yarn: one and a half skein of brown 50% acrylic 50% wool Katia Austral.

Needles: 5.5 mm / US9

Size: 3-6 months.

2. ¡Hoy está lloviendo! ¿Qué? ¿Que no es noticia? Bueno, si tenemos en cuenta que el último día que llovió aquí fue el 12 de abril... han sido seis meses de abstinencia pluvial. Por supuesto, he salido a la calle a mojar el paraguas un ratico. Qué placer.

Postscript: today's celebrations

Otro verano, otro Holden Shawlette. Este no estaba previsto y tiene su propia historia...

El año pasado por estas fechas cumplía años V., justo una semana antes del cumpleaños de otra persona muy especial. Para esta persona tejí mi segundo Holden, al que bauticé Summer porque me llevó todo el verano terminarlo. Cuando V. vino para comer el día de su cumpleaños, vio el chal recién terminadito y a punto de ser empaquetado. Por supuesto, quiso uno y no hubo forma de quitárselo de la cabeza. Cada vez que venía de visita, husmeaba por el rincón de las lanas para ver si veía algo, y me recordaba que le había prometido uno. Este verano incluso preguntó si lo tenía ya terminado; lo tenía escondido en un ropero bajo un montón de jerséis para que no lo localizara antes de tiempo. ¡Como un niño en Navidad!

Stylish

Another summer went by, another Holden Shawlette knitted. This one was not planned and has a story...

Last year around these days it was V's birthday, just one week before another special person's bday. For this person I knitted my second Holden, called Summer because it took me the whole summer to finish it. When V came for dinner to celebrate her birthday she saw that shawl just finished before being packed and of course requested one for herself. From then on, she didn't give up. Everytime she visited, she tried to look for it at the yarns corner and reminded me that I promised. This summer even asked me whether I had finished it. I had... but it was hidden in the wardrobe under a pile of sweaters. She is like a child at Christmas!

Lana: una madeja de Malabrigo Yarn Sock en color Indiecita. 100% merino.

Agujas: 5,00 mm.

Tamaño: 150 x 65 cm.

Modificaciones: las de siempre: empecé la muestra a los 141 puntos, como sugirieron Susi y Eva. Se tejen dos repeticiones en vez de tres y se continua el patrón. Después de la pasada 38, volví a tejer a partir de la pasada 23. Al final tengo los mismos puntos pero más trozo de muestra y menos de punto liso.

Yarn: one skein of Indiecita 100% merino Malabrigo Yarn Sock .

Needles: 5.00 mm (US 8).

Size: 150 x 65 cm (roughly 59"x 25.5")

Pattern: Holden Shawlette by Mindy Wilkes. Free PDF with chart (Ravelry link).

Modifications: as always: started lace pattern at 141 sts (2 repetitions instead of 3) as suggested by Susi and Eva. After row 38 started knitting again from row 23 to 38 repeating [ ] pattern as many times as needed. In the end I had the same stitches pattern stated but lace part was bigger and St st smaller.

Summer madness

A 39º durante el día, 28º por las noches, 50~80% de humedad, en una casa sin ningún sistema de climatización (ni siquiera un ventilador), paso los últimos días de agosto al amor del inexistente aire de la ventana tejiendo un par de calcetines de pura lana virgen. ¡Viva yo!

Little fairy sock

Over 100F at day, not less than 80F at nights, 50~80% humidity in a house without a/c, I am spending the last days of August knitting a pair of pure virgin wool socks by the window, trying to get some non-existent breeze. Cheers for me!

Rock Island

¡Ya estoy en casa! Sana y salva y sin encontrar demasiados desperfectos en casa a pesar del accidente, solo se rompió el cable de la línea telefónica pero me lo han reparado en menos de doce horas desde que di el aviso de avería. Poco tejer y mucho nadar, este año no hay foto de medusas gigantes. Pero me lo pasé igual de bien. :-)

I am back! Sound and safe and finding little damage at home despite the accident -- only the telephone line was broken and thankfully repaired within 12 hours since I reported. Little knitting and much swimming time, no photo of giant jellyfishes this year. But it was fun anyway. :-)

Classy & delicate

Justo horas antes de salir de viaje terminé el chal Rock Island que me comprometí a tejer durante los Ravelénicos de verano. Con mucha gente advirtiéndome sobre este patrón (difícil, pesado, desesperante) pero aun así lo hice sin modificarlo en apenas ¡12 días! Dormí poco y no tuve tiempo de hacer ninguna otra cosa; tejí sin parar durante doce tardes viendo los juegos y echando pestes de los árbitros a la pantalla.

Just hours before my departure I finished and blocked the Rock Island shawl I committed myself to knit during this summer's Ravellenics. Many people warning me of this pattern (difficult, tedious, nerve-wracking) but nevertheless, I made it without any mod in just 12 days! Little I slept and without time for anything else, I knitted for twelve afternoons non-stop watching the games and talking ill about the referees to my screen.

28/07: Edging chart repetition 15 mins each.
29/07: 56 of 71 reps. Footballers eliminated. Too angry to knit.
30/07: Worst Olympic Games ever. Went to the beach. No knitting today.
31/07: 71 of 71 reps. Zero mistakes. 190cm of lace. Picking up sts & working triangle.
01/08: 10 rows spider lace. Sixth day, first medal. It was about time!
02/08: 15 rows spider lace only. Bad knitting day, spent half afternoon mending and hiding mistakes.
03/08: Finished spider lace. Didn’t watch the games today. Not interested in athletics.
04/08: Knitting garter body.
05/08: Still knitting garter body. Moorray won gold. Are you kidding me? Meh. WOG ever.
06/08: Finished! I am awesome.

Lo gracioso del tema es que España empezó a ganar medallas en cuanto dejé de tejer. ¡Ja!

Funny thing, Spain started to win medals just after I stopped knitting. Ha!

No es la mejor época del año para ponérselos pero allá van: ¡calcetines nuevos!

Shades of Grey?

¡Calientan que da gusto! Que conste que los tejí en invierno, lo que pasa es que soy una tardona. Lo bueno de tener un pie tan pequeño es que 50 gr dan para muchas, muchas vueltas. Y aún sobra lana. Para hacer la caña alta, pasé del gráfico pequeño al mediano a la altura del gemelo (el dibujo contiene un punto más).

They are super warm! I knitted them in the winter but you know how lazy I am to get projects finished, photographed and packed. The good thing about my feet is they are so tiny that a 50gr skein makes a sock with many, many rounds and even some yarn left! To make them knee-high I changed from small to medium chart at the calf (the lace motif has one stitch more).

Light greenish grey

No conseguí el efecto deseado en el talón. Se supone que hacía un elástico retorcido muy bonito que no me salió por más que deshice. Al final, lo dejé estar. Tampoco me ha gustado el cierre; por muy flojo que lo hice y con agujas bastante más gordas, el elástico aprieta y me corta la circulación cuando flexiono la pierna. Como me ha sobrado bastante lana, cuando pase el verano lo desharé y lo cerraré con el método tubular. Pero ahora no, que pica y mucho.

I didn't get the heel stitch right. It was supposed to be a nice twisted ribbing but I couldn't make it look like that and I ripped it many times. In the end, I gave up on that. I don't like the bind off either, I carefully bound off loosely with bigger needles but still they are so tight than they cut off the circulation in my legs when I bend them. I plan to rip the ribbing and bind off again with tubular method using the yarn leftovers. But that will be in the autumn, now the wool feels too itchy on my hands.

Toe-ups

Y esta luz tan fabulosa (ejem) es la que tengo en la batcueva a mediodía en pleno verano. Ni os quiero decir cómo es en invierno.

And this wonderful light (sarcasm) is what my batcave gets at noon in summer. You don't want to know how it is in winter.

Turtle shell?

¿Cuánto hace que no hago nada de ganchillo? ¿Un año y...? No podía ser, así que cuando mi amiga Ch. me pidió como regalo de cumpleaños una funda para su agenda supe que tenía que ser de ganchillo. Busqué y busqué hasta encontrar el patrón perfecto. Japonés, por supuesto; no podía ser de otro modo.

How long since I last crocheted? More than a year? That couldn't be anymore. When my friend Ch. asked for a notebook cover as my birthday present to her I knew it had to be a crochet one. I searched till I found the perfect pattern. It was Japanese, of course. It couldn't be any other way.

Or flower?

El punto tiene un acabado que me recuerda a la concha de la tortuga (亀 - kame). Además, es un diseño muy completito con cierre que sea abrocha y un marcapáginas terminado en flor (花 - hana). 

Hilo: 100% algodón mercerizado color crudo y verde jaspeado.

I like this stitch because it looks like a turtle (亀 - kame) shell. This is a complete design, it includes a flap to fasten the notebook and a flower (花 - hana) bookmark.
