Como servidora se suele regir por aquello de "Culo veo, culo deseo", me apunté a un CAL misterioso organizado por Angel y que Sonieta muy amablemente anunció a los cuatro vientos. Me dije: si ella puede, yo puedo. Hacía tanto tiempo que no cogía el ganchillo que me siento como si hubiera vuelto al redil. Y aquí estoy...

"Monkey see, monkey do" could be my motto. I saw this mystery CAL on Sonieta's blog and decided to join in. I thought I could too. It has been so long since I held the hook that it feels like being at home again. The CAL is designed and held by Angel. So here I am...

I'm crazy but you like it! Loca loca loca*

Primera tarea: tejer 80 cuadraditos en 15 días. Ensamblar. Llevo 45 terminados y me quedan 6 días, creo que voy a buen ritmo. Eso sí, no hago otra cosa. Se me van a terminar los días de buen tiempo (=fresquitos) y los calcetines sin tejer...

First task: crochet 80 granny squares in 15 days. Join. I have made 45 and there are 6 days to go, I think I am keeping in time pretty well. However, I cannot do anything else! There are few nice weather (=cool) days ahead and still have my socks on the needles...

Scabiosa ochroleuca

Dice Marisa... 

Scabiosa es mezcla de inspiraciones. Nace de mi admiración por los tradicionales tejidos calados de Estonia. Y germina después de mi visita a los bosques andorranos, bosques repletos de flores increíblemente coloridas como la Scabiosa.

This is a shawl designed by Marisa, who says she was inspired both by Estonian lace and Andorran forests, full of bright coloured flowers.

Wide

Existe una variante de la flor scabiosa llamada ochroleuca que en vez de morada es color crema. No sé si me atrajo más su color neutro y limpio o su sonoro nombre científico. Ώχρός (ochrós) significa pálido en griego clásico y λευκός (leukós) significa blanco.

There is a species of scabiosa with creamy yellow flower heads instead of purple called ochroleuca. I don't know whether I was more attracted to it for its natural undyed-like colour or for its charming scientific name. Ώχρός (ochrós) means pale in Ancient Greek and λευκός (leukós) means white.

Long

Por eso, mi scabiosa no es columbaria sino ochroleuca. Eso sí, me mantuve fiel a la lana recomendada, Samarkand de Holst Garn: rústica al tacto cuando se teje y al mismo tiempo delicada, tras lavarla queda muy, muy suave..

And so my scabiosa is not a columbaria but an ochroleuca. I stayed loyal to the yarn she advised though: Samarkand from Holst Garn. It feels rough and delicate at the same time but becomes really soft once washed.

Light

Combina perfectamente con tonos verdes y marrones.
It coordinates perfectly with greens and browns.

Lana: dos ovillos de Holst Garn Samarkand en color Chalk (tiza). 75% lana 25% seda.
Agujas: 3,5 mm.
Tamaño: 170 x 90 cm.
Patrón: scabiosa de al-abrigo, escrito con gráficos.

Hemstitch

Tiny teeny stitches

Después de tres meses de trabajo, ya estoy cosiendo el encaje a la tela fina de lino. Hilo de algodón del nº 30.

Handstitching the bobbin lace to the linen fabric after three months of work. Cotton thread no. 30.

Zipper Cardigan

Reciclando lana. Deshicimos la Mrs. Darcy (la pobre estaba hecha polvo). Añadimos lana que sobró de la manta Sunset Sunrise. Y con las dos hebras juntas y unas agujas algo más gordotas de lo habitual... ¡voilà!

Recycling yarn. Ripped Mrs. Darcy (poor ladie was worn out). Add the remaining yarn from Sunrise Sunset Afghan. Knit holding two yarns together and bigger needles and... voilà!

¡Nueva rebeca! Tejida desde abajo hacia arriba en redondo en punto elástico roto. El bajo y la tapa de punto bobo. Se añaden las mangas, también tejidas del mismo modo. Se teje el canesú con todas las piezas juntas. Mangas ranglan. Me encantan y me sientan de fábula. He dicho. :-)

New cardigan! Bottom-up in broken rib stitch. Bottom and side edgings in garter stitch. Add sleeves, knitted in the same way. Knit yoke (all pieces together). Ranglan sleeves. I love them and I look fabulous in them. Period. :-)

Se teje el cuello en punto bobo. Se cose una cremallera que haga juego. La cremallera la cosí yo, a mano. La rebeca está tejida por mi madre, que es mucho más rápida que yo y no se distrae tan fácilmente.

Knit collar in garter stitch. Sew a matching zipper. I sewed the zipper myself by hand. The cardigan however is knitted by mum who is way faster than I am and doesn't get distracted so easily.

Back

Mil gracias a mi mami, que es toda una artista del reciclaje tejeril. Ha aprendido a tejer en redondo con este proyecto. Ahora está aprendiendo a tejer calcetines. ¡Preparaos!

Many thanks to mum who is a real artist when it comes to recycle yarn. She has learnt to knit in the round with this project. Now she is learning to knit socks. Hold on tight!

Tiny donut loves to go out

Hoy ha hecho un día estupendo y soleado, así que he estrenado mi nueva rebeca y nos hemos ido a pasear al parque. De paso, he sacado unas cuantas fotos. Y he tejido unas cuantas pasadas más de mis calcetines -- segundo calcetín ya, por cierto. Soy un atractivo más para los turistas...

Today it was a sunny and fantastic day so I put on my new cardigan and we went out to the park. I took some photos. And I knitted some rounds of my socks. Second sock, by the way. I am just another attraction for the tourists...

Rare Disease Day

No me resistía a escribir algo en un día tan especial como hoy. Es un día raro. El Día de las Enfermedades Raras. ¿Conocéis a alguien que haya nacido un 29 de febrero? Yo no.

I couldn't resist writing something in such a special day today. It's a rare day. Rare Disease Day. Do you know anyone born on Februrary 29th? I don't.

February projects

¿Cómo celebráis el día de San Valentín? En Japón es tradicional que las chicas regalen chocolate a sus parejas, amigos o incluso compañeros de trabajo. Este año mi amiga C. me incluyó en la lista y el día 14 recibí todo esto. Como ya me he terminado el crocante que me envió Libby (duró muy poco) me viene de maravilla. KitKat japonés y caramelos típicos. ¡Me voy a poner las botas!

How do you celebrate St. Valentine's Day? In Japan girls give chocolates to their boyfriends, friends or coworkers. This year my friend C. also included me in her list and on the 14th I received all of this. Comes in handy because I have finished the peanut brittle Libby sent me (it has gone really fast). Japanese KitKat and typical candies. Yummy!

Mientras tanto mis agujas no paran. He empezado un nuevo chal que llevaba esperando desde octubre a que tuviera un ratito para él. Se trata del chal Scabiosa, diseñado por Marisa. No solamente es un rato maja, sino que tiene unas creaciones preciosas. Temí que fuera demasiado complicado para mí pero me está resultando muy fácil y agradable. No me he equivocado ni una sola vez. :-)

Marisa fue la primera en animarme a que me lanzara al Lado Oscuro a tejer calados y tiene mucha paciencia conmigo y con mis preguntas tontas. ¡Muchas gracias!

In the meanwhile my needles haven't stopped working. I have started a new shawl that I had in mind since last October, just waiting I had enough time for it. It is the Scabiosa shawl designed by Marisa. Not only she is a pleasant young lady but she also makes lovely stuff. I was afraid it would be too difficult for me but I found it very easy and nice to knit. I haven't tinked a single stitch. :-)

Marisa was the first one to tell me to join the Dark Side to start lace knitting and she is really patient with me and my silly questions. Thank you!

Entretanto, como no solo de chales vive la tejedora, llevo este proyecto en el bolso para todos los momentos "me aburro" que puedan surgir: esperas en el médico, viajes en el tren, colas en la peluquería, ratitos de banco en el parque... Creo que ya soy medio conocida en la zona como "la rara que hace punto con los palillos de las brochetas". Seguro que lo que más les escandaliza es que no me da vergüenza que me vean. Jiji.

El primer calcetín está a punto. Como tengo el pie de princesita tengo mucha lana para hacer la caña bien alta y hermosa. ¡Me encanta!

But knitter does not live by shawls alone. I carry this little project with me all the time, ready for any of those boring moments of the day: doctor's waiting room, commuter train, hairdresser's, the sunny bank at the park... I think I am being noticed around lately and people may know me as the "weird girl who knits with skewers". I am sure the worst thing to them is I am not ashamed to be seen. lol

The first sock is almost done. My feet are very small so I have yarn enough to make it nearly knee-high. Love that!

Entre tanto regalo, tanta lana nueva y tantas cosas por terminar, casi olvidé este pequeño encargo que me había hecho una amiga para su nueva sobrina. Por suerte, logré acabarlo a tiempo. Felicidades, Encarni y Russell, por esa niña tan guapa.

I had so many presents, new yarn and UFOs that I almost forgot I had to make this little bib a friend had ordered for her new niece. Luckily I finished on time. Congratulations Encarni and Russell for your pretty baby girl!

Baltasar

Como todos los años, Baltasar llega el último, ya que es el que mayor distancia tiene que recorrer. Pero nunca falta a su cita. Este año, tampoco. En un sobre grande color marrón me enviaba desde el otro lado del océano su paje, Libby, estos maravillosos e inesperados regalitos:

Every year King Baltasar is the last one to arrive, since he is the one who comes from the furthest place. Nevertheless, he never fails to come. He didn't this year either. His page girl this year, Libby, sent me a big brown parcel from overseas with all these wonderful and unexpected gifts inside:

Un calendario (¡en castellano!) con imágenes de los Estados Unidos, una tarjeta navideña diferente, preciosa, un alfiler para chales en forma de corazón y un paquete de peanut brittle (crocante de cacahuete), que nunca había probado y está riquísimo y se pega a las muelas, como buen dulce navideño que se precie.

A calendar of the US (in Spanish!), a different beautiful Christmas card, a heart shaped shawl pin and a bag of peanut brittle which I had never tasted before and absolutely love now. It gets stuck on your teeth -- a proof that it is a good Christmas candy.

El alfiler ya está estrenado, con mi chal favorito. Me hizo padecer un poco, pensaba que se caería y lo perdería pero no, se portó muy bien, aguantó todo el día de paseo y volvió enterito a casa. Creo que nos vamos a llevar muy bien.

The pin has already been worn with my favourite shawl. I suffered a bit because I thought it was going to fall down but it didn't, kept still all day and come back home in place. I think we are going to be good friends.
