Introducing Miss Elliot

Miss Elliot Spencer - finished
Happily dancing with her spencer

Actually I finished it last year but couldn't model it. Last summer was so hot that I didn't have a chance to wear it! So here it is now. As the idiom says: better later than never.

Miss Elliot Spencer - finished
Comfortably fitting...

I made a lot of modifications for this project. In fact, I only respected the basic shape of the cardigan, the stitch patterns (moss for bottom band and clover for body) and shell crocheted edge. I knitted all pieces together, switched to ranglan sleeves, made them longer, made a higher neckline and calculated no ease. Tight fitting clothes for summer are really uncomfortable for me.

This one was only my second serious knitting project! Doesn't it look way better than my first one?

Duele demasiado.
Ya volveré.

Blogger has been down for a few days, like me. How supportive! That has been so kind of 'it'. I really thought I would be feeling better as days went by doing my daily chores but it is not being like that at all. I am feeling worse as time goes by. I have given up everything: not finished reading my book, need to BO this Wisp, to frog that sock's BO, never pick up the needle for the embroidered cushion... I am even forgetting my Latin!
It hurts too much.
I'll be back sometime.

Veyla

To V. who chose these buttons for me.

Vida nueva, guantes nuevos.

New life, new mittens.

Last October I was sent this beautiful yarn and pattern by a dear friend as a birthday present. It took me a while to start this project but once I did I absolutely loved it. The pattern is gorgeus, the yarn soft and smooth to work with and the result... you can see that for yourselves.

Yarn: one skein of 40% Silk, 40% Wool, 20% Bamboo Mirasol Yarn Nuna. Colour Forest Green 1003.
Needles: 2.50 mm (US 1½).
Size: XS
Pattern: Veyla by Ysolda Teague.
Tips: to avoid "Second Sock Syndrome" (or mitten) I suggest to start knitting both cuffs as they are knit separately from mitt. When you begin the second mitten you will be half-done!

¡LISTO!

A lot had happened since. Now I am a bit less cheerful and a bit more thoughtful but here I am struggling with life and looking foward.
5. New projects! Veyla, with that yarn I got for them. DONE!

I don't think I could ever thank you enough for all you have done for me, my friend!
:-)

Tying up loose ends

Star Baby Afghan
Sad rainbow star was neglected for too long

I have decided to finish this after a year and a half without working on it, thanks to my dear mother's kind comments "star shaped? useless thing!" everytime she saw it on my hands. I just can't stand to see it unfinished and forgotten everytime I open the yarn box. It is actually useless at the moment and I don't think that is going to change soon. Now I am a bit depressed to have made something nobody is going to use. Let's see what happens to it once it is finished. Only weaving in ends and blocking is left - and still have to find a place to block it!

Swallowtail Shawl - finished

Swallowtail Shawl I
It was a windy day on the flat roof...

Here it is! Finished, soft and fluffy: my first Swallowtail Shawl (as I will be making more of these in the future) a.k.a. "Wild Heart" after the TV series I have been watching while knitting and will come to my mind everytime I see this shawl's colour, the same green of the main lead's eyes! ;-) Thanks to the series I could count the exact time it took me to finish: 2120 minutes or 35 hours 20 minutes or 53 chapters (of 80). Meaning that I still have 17 chapters left to make another garment! :-)

Swallowtail Shawl I
... but cute shawl wanted to pose for the photo...

It has been my first lace project, first with mohair yarn (hooray for all that fluff around the house!), first with nupps and first being blocked for four days on my poor & tortured-by-pins yoga mat. I have learnt a bunch of new things thanks to Marisa's suggestion: "you are skilled enough for lace" she said. Hope to have met your expectations!

Swallowtail Shawl I
... and managed to stay still

Yarn: more than one skein of 70% mohair 30% silk Rowan Kidsilk Haze. Colour Fern.
Needles: 3.50 mm (US 4).
Size: 115 x 55 cm (roughly 45.5" x 21.5")
Pattern: Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark. Free PDF with chart.

The only bad point (because there is one) of this wonderful shawl is its size. I didn't know the pattern beforehand and didn't dare to modify it so it turned out much smaller than I thought it would be. The second skein is almost untouched! I suppose I knit really tight. But next time I will add as many Budding Lace pattern repeats as needed to make it bigger even if I am tired of it.

Wild heart

Clearly in love. In spite of all that green fluff that follows me around the house wherever I go. Because when I knit, I do it in the best company. And my heart still skips a beat when I see Juan del Diablo, just as if I was 14 again...
