Tying up loose ends

Después de año y medio sin tocarlo, totalmente desmotivada por los amables comentarios de mi señora madre "¿en forma de estrella? ¡qué cosa más inútil!" cada vez que lo veía en mis manos, me he decidido a terminarlo aunque solo sea por no verlo más cada vez que abro la caja de las lanas. No tiene destinatario ni creo que lo tenga a este paso. Me deprime haber hecho algo a lo que no le encuentro utilidad, a pesar de lo mono que está quedando. Así que ya veremos qué hago con él en cuanto esté totalmente terminado. Sólo me queda rematar las hebras y ahormarlo (ya veremos dónde, otro misterio sin resolver).

Sad rainbow star was neglected for too long

I have decided to finish this after a year and a half without working on it, thanks to my dear mother's kind comments "star shaped? useless thing!" everytime she saw it on my hands. I just can't stand to see it unfinished and forgotten everytime I open the yarn box. It is actually useless at the moment and I don't think that is going to change soon. Now I am a bit depressed to have made something nobody is going to use. Let's see what happens to it once it is finished. Only weaving in ends and blocking is left - and still have to find a place to block it!

Swallowtail Shawl - finished

It was a windy day on the flat roof...

Aquí está, terminado, suave y esponjoso, mi primer Swallowtail Shawl (porque haré más, ya lo creo), alias "Corazón Salvaje" en honor a la serie que me ha acompañado mientras lo tejía y que rememoraré cuando vea el color del chal, del mismo verde que los ojos de su protagonista. ;-) Gracias a la serie, he podido contabilizar el tiempo exacto de su ejecución: 2.120 minutos, o lo que es lo mismo, 35 horas y 20 minutos, o bien, 53 capítulos (de un total de 80). Es decir, que tengo 17 emocionantes capítulos para otra labor todavía a elegir. :-)

Here it is! Finished, soft and fluffy: my first Swallowtail Shawl (as I will be making more of these in the future) a.k.a. "Wild Heart" after the TV series I have been watching while knitting and will come to my mind everytime I see this shawl's colour, the same green of the main lead's eyes! ;-) Thanks to the series I could count the exact time it took me to finish: 2120 minutes or 35 hours 20 minutes or 53 chapters (of 80). Meaning that I still have 17 chapters left to make another garment! :-)

Ha sido mi primer proyecto con calados, el primero hecho con mohair (¡vivan los pelitos que corretean por la casa!), el primero con garbancillos "nupps" y el primero que he tenido tirado sobre la esterilla de yoga (pobrecita mía, la maltrato a alfileterazos) cuatro días para ahormar. He aprendido un montón de cosas gracias a la recomendación que en su día me dijo Marisa: "ya tienes nivel para empezar con los calados". ¡Espero haberte dado la razón!

It has been my first lace project, first with mohair yarn (hooray for all that fluff around the house!), first with nupps and first being blocked for four days on my poor & tortured-by-pins yoga mat. I have learnt a bunch of new things thanks to Marisa's suggestion: "you are skilled enough for lace" she said. Hope to have met your expectations!

... and managed to stay still

Mi único pero a este maravilloso chal es el tamaño. Sin conocer de antemano el patrón no me atreví a modificarlo y ha quedado mucho más pequeño de lo que pensé. ¡Me ha sobrado casi un ovillo entero! Señal de lo apretado que tejo. La próxima vez añadiré tantas repeticiones del patrón Budding Lace como considere necesarias para agrandarlo, aunque me canse de él.

The only bad point (because there is one) of this wonderful shawl is its size. I didn't know the pattern beforehand and didn't dare to modify it so it turned out much smaller than I thought it would be. The second skein is almost untouched! I suppose I knit really tight. But next time I will add as many Budding Lace pattern repeats as needed to make it bigger even if I am tired of it.

Wild heart

Definitivamente, de amor. Pese a la cantidad de pelillos verdes que me acompañan por toda la casa allá donde voy. Y es que cuando tejo, lo hago en la mejor compañía. Y Juan del Diablo sigue acelerándome el corazón como si aún tuviese 14 años...

Clearly in love. In spite of all that green fluff that follows me around the house wherever I go. Because when I knit, I do it in the best company. And my heart still skips a beat when I see Juan del Diablo, just as if I was 14 again...

Swallowtail Shawl

Medio maravillada, medio mosqueada. Es la lana más dulce, suave, esponjosa y delicada que he tocado en mi vida. Y sin embargo, se engancha de mala manera cada vez que tengo que dar marcha atrás los puntos, cosa que tengo que hacer demasiado a menudo para mi gusto. Aún estoy intentado decidir si mi relación con ella es de amor o de odio... con ella y con el patrón.

Green knitting in the Batcave

Half delighted, half annoyed. The sweetest, softest, fluffiest and most delicate yarn my hands have ever touched. But it gets tangled up in a very evil way everytime I have to undo my stitches - and I do have to go back a lot. Still wondering whether I am in love or in hate with this gem of a yarn... and pattern.

Round dishcloth

Strawberry cream ♥ kiwis, oranges & bananas

Lana: un ovillo de Lily Sugar'n Cream Ombres & Prints en color Strawberry Cream. 100% algodón.

Agujas: 4.50 mm de doble punta.

Patrón: Round Dishcloth por Amy Carpenter (gratuito en inglés).

Aprendí a tejer vueltas cortas y a remallar en punto bobo (que es muuucho más fácil que remallar la puntera de los calcetines). Y mientras tanto, consumo vitamina C para combatir el frío. :-)

I learnt to knit short rows and garter stitch grafting (way easier than binding off socks). At the same time, taking some Vitamin C to fight off cold weather. :-)

Snowy Socks

Aquí están, usados ya, mis nuevos calcetines. No están hechos con la mejor lana para ello pero calientan que da gusto y los llevo para ir por casa. Además, he aprovechado un resto que me quedaba y eso siempre da puntos. Creo que podré solucionar el asunto de remallado de la puntera pronto; según parece lo que hacía mal era tirar de la hebra hacia el lado que no era y retorcer el punto en vez de dejarlo liso. Sí, y eso que el tutorial está lleno de fotos...
2. Terminar mis segundos Miss I (ssipi) Socks ¡LISTO!

These are my new but already worn socks. Not the best yarn to knit socks but they are warm and I wear them at home. Also I used yarn I had left from another project and that's a plus. I think I can resolve that grafting issue soon. Looks like the problem was I was pulling the needle to the wrong side and made a twisted stitch as result. Funny thing I follow a photo tutorial...

Greens

Como comenté en el anterior post, he recibido lanas nuevas y más cositas en el intercambio navideño organizado por Valencia Knits. Es el tercer año para ellas y el primero para mí (y eso que sólo he podido asistir fugazmente a una reunión para saludar y charlar diez minutos y creo que sólo dos personas se acuerdan de mí). Mi sorprendedora era Ana, de Planeta Piruleta, y ciertamente me sorprendió con una caja enorme, verde, llena de cosas muy muy bonitas y verdes. ¿He dicho ya que era verde? ;-)

In the previous post I told you I had been given new yarn. I also got other pretty things in this year's Christmas Swap organized by Valencia Knits group. Third year for them and first for me - I only went to a meeting once, stayed ten minutes and had to leave. I don't think anyone remembers me but two ladies. Ana from Planeta Piruleta was the person who had to surprise me and she undoubtedly did. I got a big green box full of green pretty things. Did I say green? ;-)

How Green Was My Valley

Sobre mis preferencias recuerdo que básicamente dije dos cosas: me gusta el verde y quiero aprender a tejer calcetines. Y Ana, ni corta ni perezosa, me preparó un kit completo: bolsa de labor y estuche para agujas pequeñas hechos por ella (aún estoy decidiendo si me gusta más por fuera o por dentro, el forro es precioso), juego de agujas de doble punta de bambú del 2.50mm y tres ovillos de lana para calcetines, para hacer dos pares, en tonos verdes (bueno, dos son grises pero yo le veo un aire). Ahora sólo tengo que poner de mi parte, aprender y usar bien su regalo. Además añadió dos preciosos ovillos de Rowan en un verde esmeralda que brilla como el cesped recién cortado para que me hiciera un chal (o lo que yo quiera, pero será un chal, ya lo creo). Si hasta el papel con el que envolvió con tanto detalle todas las cosas era verde. ¡Cómo me ha gustado! ¡¡Muchísisisimas gracias!! ¡Muacs!

About my preferences I remember I said I liked green colour and I wanted to learn to knit socks. Wasting no time, Ana prepared a socks-knitting set for me: crafting bag and purse for small needles made by her (I love them and I am still trying to decide whether I like the outside or the inside more, the lining is gorgeous), set of 5 2.50mm bamboo dpns (US 1 1/2) and three green skeins of sock yarn, enough for making two pairs - to be fair, two of them are grey but I saw a greenish air on them. Now I just have to work hard and learn. She also added another two gorgeous skeins from Rowan in bright green emerald so I could knit a shawl (or whatever I like... it would be definitely a shawl). Even the paper for wrapping the gifts was green! I liked everything so much! Many many many thanks!! *kisses*

Projects & Procrastination

Hum. Tengo un dilema. Allá por abril del año pasado puse una foto de todos los ovillos de hilo y lana para tejer que tenía por casa, repartidos en diferentes cajas y habitaciones, y me avergoncé a mí misma por tener tanta tontería almacenada y no sacarle provecho. De modo que me propuse usarla con buenos fines y saqué un cuello, una mantita pequeña para el sofá, un jersey que estoy a punto de terminar, cuadraditos para el proyecto SIBOL, dos camisetitas veraniegas (de una de ellas aún no he sacado aún fotos), un tapete y unos mitones.

El caso está en que prometí no comprar más hasta rebajarlo al menos a la mitad. Y no lo he hecho, salvo por un encargo que tuve y para el cual no tenía en ese momento la lana adecuada (que ya es casualidad, con todo lo que tengo, cada ovillo de un padre y una madre).

¿Y sabéis qué? Pues que lejos de reducirlo tanto como yo creía ha aumentado por obra y gracia de mis amigas tejedoras. Recibí una madeja preciosa como regalo de cumpleaños para hacer otro par de mitones, dos ovillos de un reciente viaje a Alemania de unos amigos (¡acompañado por revistas de patrones que no entiendo! ¡pero muchas gracias!), diez ovillos que gané en el sorteo que hacía Miso precisamente para librarse de lana (me sorprendí un montón porque yo NUNCA gano ningún sorteo, ¡gracias!) y otros cinco que me hacen babear cada vez que los miro como parte del intercambio navideño de Valencia Knits, que es el primer año que participo.

Total: que sigo en las mismas, pero ahora con lanas bonitas de verdad, no de las que yo compraba baratitas que pican cuando te pones las cosas que has hecho con ellas. Y tengo en mente mil proyectos que quiero empezar hoy, porque sí, porque me apetece, pero que no voy a hacer hasta que termine lo que tengo entre manos y me dé un respiro.

He aquí  mi plan:

(Ecce consilium meum!)

1. Terminar el jersey. Sólo me queda el puño de una manga, por amor de Dios. Eso sí es dejar las cosas para luego, ¡lleva un mes así!

2. Terminar mis segundos Miss I (ssipi) Socks, a ver si ya de una vez aprendo a hacer el remallado de la puntera que llevo tres calcetines y en ninguno de ellos lo he conseguido, y eso que la he deshecho varias veces antes de darme por vencida.

3. Sacar fotos a las nuevas lanas, que son muchas y muy bonitas.

4. Rematar todo lo que tengo por ahí sin rematar y sacar fotos a todo lo que ya esté terminado sin catalogar.

5. Nuevos proyectos:

    - Veyla, con la lana que me regalaron expresamente para ellos.
    - Swallowtail, ídem.
    - Calorimetry, con restos.
    - Calcetines varios todavía por elegir, pero que empiecen por la puntera que si no me pongo nerviosa porque no sé si la lana me va a dar para terminarlos o no.
    - Mantita o chaquetita (o ambos) para el bebé de los amigos que fueron a Alemania. Para cuando me dé tiempo a llegar aquí el niño tendrá un año o dos, pero se intentará.
    - Capelet con la lana "super bulky" que me envió Miso.

6. Mientras tanto, seguir cosiendo con mucha paciencia los hexágonos de la cubierta de verano, que ya los tengo todos.

7. Y seguir con el cojín marroquí a punto de cruz y adelantarlo otro poco.

Y eso es todo (creo). Confesiones y resoluciones de año nuevo atrasadas... ¡cómo no!

Uhm. I have this dilemma. Last year, back in April I posted a photo of my yarn stash I had hidden all around the house in different boxes and rooms and was ashamed to see how much stuff I had stored without using it. I made the resolution to use it wisely and managed to make a cowl, a lapghan, a sweater I am about to finish, granny squares for SIBOL project, two summer tops (didn't take photos of one of them), a doily and a pair of mittens.

The thing is I promised not to buy more yarn until I had decreased my stash to half at least. And I can tell you I didn't except for an order I had for which I didn't have the right yarn (isn't it funny? I had lots of different skeins and no one was suitable for it).

And know what? Far from decreasing it, my stash has increased thanks to my crafting friends! I got a gorgeous hank as a birthday gift to make another pair of mittens, two skeins from some friends who recently travelled to Germany (and some knitting magazines that I don't understand too! But thank you so much!), ten skeins I won from the giving away Miso was having on her blog as she wanted to - irony - get rid of some of her stash (I was really surprised as I NEVER win anything! thank you!) and five more skeins from this Christmas swap organized by Valencia Knits group, this being the first year I joined.

In short: I am at the same spot but this time I have really beautiful yarn and not the cheap kind I used to buy, that who leaves you itching when you wear the clothes you made with it. I have in mind thousands of projects I want to start today. Yes, today! I want to! I want to! But I will refrain till I finish all the work in progress and rest for a while.
 

This is my planning:

1. Finish the sweater. There is only a cuff left, for Heaven's sake! It's been untouched for a month. That's what I call procrastinating!

2. Finish my second pair of Miss I (ssipi) Socks and please learn how to graft the toe part properly. I have knitted three socks and after some ripping and knitting again I didn't yet.

3. Take photos of all my gorgeous new skeins.

4. Weave in all ends and take photos of every FO and list them.

5. New projects!

   -Veyla, with that yarn I got for them.

   -Swallowtail, idem.

   -Calorimetry, with scraps.

   -Several socks, pattern unchosen yet. Toe-up socks, pretty please. I hate not knowing how much remaining yarn there is in the skein and whether I will be able to finish them or not.

   -Little blanket or jacket - or even both, why not? - for my friends' baby, those who went to Germany. Probably the baby will be a toddler when I have some spare time to knit/crochet something  for him but I will give it my best.

    - Capelet with that super bulky yarn Miso sent me.

6. Meanwhile, sew together all the hexagons for my summer bedspread - I have them all!

7. And make some progress with the pretty cross-stitch Moroccan cushion.

That's all, I guess. Procrastinated confessions and new year resolutions!
