Hace poco recibí este premio de mi amiga Libby. ¡Gracias! Estas son siete cosas de mí que aún no os había dicho:

1. Hoy es mi cumpleaños. Cumplo 32.
2. Entre gatos y perros elijo gatos (aunque me encantan los perros).
3. Alhana no es más que un apodo de internet. Es el nombre de un personaje de Dragonlance y llevo usándolo desde mitad de los 90, más o menos. Hace tanto que ya me parece mi propio nombre.
4. Mi media naranja y yo llevamos nueve años juntos y aún no hemos puesto fecha de boda.
5. Mi comida preferida son el queso y las olivas; las como al menos dos veces al día. Me siento feliz de haber nacido en el mediterráneo.
6. Una de mis películas favoritas es Conan el Bárbaro.
7. Soy una fan rarita de La Guerra de las Galaxias: el personaje que me gusta es Luke Skywalker. ¡Es un personaje que... evoluciona! (no como otros). Y no, Han Solo no mola hasta que Leia no lo domestica. ;-)

I was recently awarded another Versatile Blogger Award. Thanks, Libby for thinking of me. These are 7 things I didn't tell you yet:

1. Today is my birthday. I am 32 now!
2. I choose cats over dogs (but I love dogs).
3. Alhana is just my nickname. It's a character from Dragonlance adventures and I am using it since mid 90's. It's been so long that it feels my own name now.
4. My significant other and I have been 9 years together but haven't set a wedding date yet.
5. My favourite food are cheese and olives and I eat them at least twice a day. I am so happy I am Mediterranean!
6. Conan the Barbarian is one of my favourite films.
7. I am a weird Star Wars fan: the character I prefer is Luke Skywalker! His character actually developes, unlike others - and no, Han Solo isn't cool until Leia tames him. ;-)

$6.50 Sweater - 2nd step

He estado jugueteando un poco con mi jersey y el photoshop. Tejer desde el cuello hacia abajo es una pasada y probarte la prenda mientras tanto muy divertido. ¡Parece que me va a dar tiempo a terminarlo antes de que llegue el frío!

I have been playing a little with my sweater and photoshop. Knitting top-down is awesome and trying the garment on a lot of fun. Looks like I will be able to finish it before the cold weather arrives!

Ghost house? Nah, bad light ;-)

He tenido tiempo de probarme, medirme, tejer y deshacer hasta conseguir las medidas apropiadas para mí (que para variar no coinciden con las del patrón). Mientras tejo, voy tomando nota de todo para crear el "jersey tipo" con el que el día de mañana pueda hacerme cualquier diseño que me guste sin tener que hacer tantos cálculos.

I had time enough to try it on, measure, knit and frog till I got the right amount of stitches (as always, the original pattern does not fit me). At the same time, I have been writing down all the modifications I made so in the future I can adapt any design I like to this "model sweater".

$6.50 Sweater - 1st step

Llevo queriendo hacerme un jersey morado desde hace un tiempo y tenía planeado tejer uno para este otoño. Sin embargo, de vez en cuando echaba una ojeada a esa pila inmensa de ovillos a la cual tomé una foto el pasado abril y que no ha bajado su volumen a pesar de mis esfuerzos... Vale, no he hecho tampoco ningún esfuerzo, pero es que no puedo pensar en hacer nada decente con todos esos ovillos sueltos.

I have been wanting a purple sweater for a while and planned to knit one this autumn. However, from time to time, I went back to that stash picture I took last April and couldn't help but notice that it hasn't decreased a bit despite my efforts - OK, not much effort really. I just couldn't think of something good enough to make with all those unmatching skeins. I absolutely cannot buy more yarn!

Y entonces me di cuenta: ¡pero sí ya tenía un ovillo morado! Lástima que lo había comprado para hacer una mantita de zig-zag que tenía planeada desde hacía tiempo... (lo sé, tengo que dejar de planear y ponerme a tejer). Lástima que un pedazo de ovillo de 200g. no sea suficiente para tapar esta miniatura de cuerpo que tengo... Ah, pero espera: si también están el azul y el sandía que compré con el morado. ¿A lo mejor podría hacerme un jersey a rayas? ¿Manga ranglan y tejido de arriba a bajo sin costuras? :-D

And then I saw it: I had a purple skein already! Too bad I bought it for a ripple blanket I have been planning for a while (...seriously, I ought to stop planning and start knitting). Too bad a big 7oz. skein is not enough to cover this little body of mine. But, oh, I also had that blue and watermelon skeins that came with the purple one. Maybe I could make a striped sweater with them? A top-down seamless ranglan sweater? :-D

Sibolette

Mis cuadraditos para el proyecto SIBOL de Mrs. Twins han llegado hoy y ella ha sido muy amable al sacar un montón de fotos, lo cual me alegra porque olvidé sacarlas yo antes de enviar el paquete y me gusta llevar la cuenta de todos los proyectos que hago, sean grandes o pequeños.

My squares for Mrs. Twins' SIBOL project arrived today and she was very kind to take a lot of pictures of them. I am glad because I didn't take any before sending them and I like to keep track of every project I make, small or big!

Además el paquete incluía un par de extras: una toallita del maravilloso patrón de Tea (esta vez lo tejí tal cual, sin modificaciones; no me canso de este patrón) y el famoso tapete de las piñas que llevó a Sonieta de cabeza durante un tiempecito. ;-) ¡Así que ahora ya se sabe quien era la misteriosa destinataria del tapete!

I also sent her a couple of extra items within the squares parcel: a white&pink cloth I made with Tea's wonderful pattern (this time I crocheted the pattern as it is and I don't seem to get enough of it) and the pineapple doily that made Sonieta go crazy for a while. ;-) So now the mysterious recipient of the doily has been disclosed!

Dragonfly stitch markers

Para marcar esos puntos clave cuando tejemos se puede usar simplemente un trozo de lana con nudo corredizo o unos aros de plástico que sean lo suficientemente anchos para que quepan las agujas. Desgraciadamente para mí, tiendo a perder los hilos (o a tejerlos en la prenda) y a romper los aritos de plástico... Por esta razón, gracias a este tutorial me he hecho unos marcadores de puntos bastante resistentes (¡y muy monos!). Lo único que deseo ahora es que la lana no se enganche y se me eche a perder el invento.

To mark those key stitches when knitting you can just use scraps of yarn tied in a slip knot or use simple plastic rings wide enough for the needle to fit them up. Unfortunately, I tend to either lose the scraps or knit them into the project or break the plastic rings. lol That's why I came up with these sturdy and cute stitch markers thanks to this tutorial. My only wish now is they won't catch on the yarn!

Hilo: dos ovillos Katia Samba fucsia (uno para cada calcetín). 100% algodón.
Agujas: 2,5 mm.
Talla: 35 (europea).
Patrón: Miss (I)ssipi Socks de Lolita Blahnik.
Modificaciones: monté sólo 56 puntos e hice el elástico 3/1 para que luciera mejor el hilo.

Yarn: 2 skeins of 100% cotton Katia Samba. Colour fuchsia.
Needles: 2.5 mm / US1½
Size: EU 35.
Pattern: Miss (I)ssipi Socks by Lolita Blahnik (tutorial - Spanish only).
Mods: CO 56 sts and changed ribbing to 3/1 to bring out the yarn.

Y aprovecho para felicitar a mis tocayas y a las Meritxells, Loretos, Covadongas, Fuensantas y demás agraciadas por el día de hoy. ;-)

Shell Bag

Es el momento de rescatar otro proyecto acabado que había sido olvidado en el fondo de un cajón. ¿Alguien se acuerda de cuando escribí que había recibido mi primer encargo? Aunque, al ser para un familiar cercano, no me pagaron nada... ¡Pero me hizo tan feliz saber que alguien quería algo que yo hubiera hecho a mano! Me pidieron que hiciera un bolso parecido al mío y esto fue lo que hice, sobrio y discreto.

It's time for another FO that was forgotten in the drawer. Remember when I wrote I had my first commission? As it was for a beloved relative, I wasn't paid. Oh, but it made me so happy that someone wanted something handmade by me! I was asked to make a bag similar to mine and this is what I came up with - sober & discreet.

Little big mourning bag ♥

Hilo: 100% algodón mercerizado Omega Sinfonía color negro.
Ganchillo: 3,5 mm.
Tamaño: 25 x 40 cm. aprox.
Patrón: pág. 91 de la revista Keito Dama nº 137 (Primavera 2008). Japonés con esquema.
Modificaciones: para hacerlo más grande empecé con 44 cadenetas e hice un total de 44 pasadas, aumentando proporcionalmente. Sin embargo, para mi gusto pierde la forma original y si lo volviera a tejer, no modificaría nada.

Yarn: 100% mercerised cotton yarn Omega Sinfonia. Colour black.
Hook: 3.5 mm /US E.
Size: 25 x 40 cm (10" x 16") approx.
Pattern: page 91 crochet bag from Keito Dama no. 137 (Spring 2008). Japanese with chart.
Modifications: started with ch-44 and increased evenly to make it bigger. 44 rows. However, it kinda loses its original shape and I wouldn't add a single stitch if I had to crochet it again.

Ya sé que tocaba empezar con un "¡Por fin estamos a septiembre!" pero por esta vez me abstendré. Será mejor que no espere a que ocurran las cosas sino que las deje llegar a su ritmo, como debe ser. :-)

I know I should have started this post with "September is here! Yay!" but I will refrain this time. I better don't wait for things to happen but just let them come smoothly as they should. :-)

Coachella

Estas pasadas vacaciones tuve la ocasión de charlar un ratito con una de mis crafters favoritas. Durante la conversación, me hizo la siguiente pregunta:
- ¿Qué estás tejiendo ahora?
¡Es la primera vez que alguien me lo pregunta! :-D Qué raro (y a la vez qué satisfactorio) se me hizo. Qué bien charlar de cuando en cuando con alguien que comparte tus aficiones, he estado tanto tiempo "sola" que me parece hasta surrealista hablar cara a cara con alguien de mi edad sobre el tema. Subrayo lo de la edad, que las señoras de la tienda de las lanas no cuentan, que llevo ya tres años comprando allí y aún me miran como a un bicho raro. :-)

These past holidays I was lucky I could met for a brief time one of my favourite crafters. She asked me: "what are you knitting now?" It is the first time somebody asks me this! :-D It felt both weird and pleasing. I am so happy I can talk to people who share my hobbies from time to time. I have been 'alone' so long that it feels a little surrealistic to chat face-to-face with someone around my age - I would like to emphasize 'my age' as the ladies at the local yarn shop don't count because I have been buying there for three years and they still stare at me everytime I go. :-)

Para irme de vacaciones sin dejarme nada a medias hice todo lo posible para terminar los dos proyectos que llevaba entre manos, aunque no me dio tiempo a publicarlos. Este es uno de ellos:

I knitted as fast as I could in order to finish all my wip's before going on holidays but couldn't take pictures and publish any. This is one of them:

Front - I see skies of blue...

Lana: algo menos de una madeja de 200g. de algodón 100% en tonos azules.
Agujas: 3,5 mm.
Patrón: Coachella by Fathom Harvill - Knitty Summer 2007. (en inglés)
Modificaciones: hice las modificaciones de Roko para "escápulas tímidas". (en japonés e inglés)

Yarn: 100% cotton in shades of blue. A little less than a 200g. skein.
Needles: 3.5 mm / US4.
Pattern: Coachella by Fathom Harvill - Knitty Summer 2007.
Mods: I made the same modifications than Roko's coachella for shy scapulas.

Back - ... clouds of white

Y al igual que Roko, terminé haciéndole unas pasadas de ganchillo en el bajo, el único adorno de todo el jersey que además sirve para asentarlo y que no se enrolle. ¡Me encanta!

I crocheted the bottom edge the same way Roko did. It prevents the bottom edge from rolling up and is a cute decoration. I love it!

Saratto - 1st step

Con todas las tormentas de la pasada semana parecía que el verano se había ido y el otoño pedía permiso para entrar... Pues no. Las temperaturas de repente han alcanzado (y superado) los 40 grados y el tiempecito fresco que teníamos ha desaparecido. :-(
Esto significa que no puedo empezar algunos proyectos que tenía en mente para la temporada entrante, aunque siendo optimista también quiere decir que todavía tengo tiempo para hacerme alguna prenda de verano y, si tejo lo suficientemente rápido, ponérmela. :-)

With all the storms from past week it looked like summer was gone and autumn was asking for permission to enter... Wrong. Temperatures suddenly reached - and surpassed - 40C (104F) and the cool weather we were enjoying is nowhere to see. :-(
That means I can't start some projects I had in mind for this upcoming season. On the brighter side, this is great chance to make some summer clothes, meaning that I still can wear them if I crochet fast enough. :-)

Strawberries & Cream

De modo que me estoy haciendo una camiseta blanca y rosa. Una gran oportunidad para hacer algo con todos los ovillos de hilo de algodón de colorines que se ven tan monos en la tienda y luego no sabes qué hacer con ellos.

I am crocheting a pink and white top. A nice opportunity to make something with all those cotton thread skeins I had in my stash - the ones that look so nice and colourful at the shop but later you don't know what to do with them.

Holidays

Acabo de volver de mis vacaciones a la Tierra de las Flores, de la Luz y del Amor (tara-ra-chín, ta-chín, ta-chín), la cual, como tristemente pude comprobar, ha sido recientemente invadida por los italianos. Ya no se puede oír el melodioso acento local pues ha sido reemplazado por "è veros" y "capiscis". En la playa, en el hotel, en el metro, en todas partes...

I just came back from a holiday trip to the Land of Flowers, Light and Love, where I sadly discovered it has been recently invaded by Italians and you cannot longer listen to the mellow sound of the local language but it has been replaced by 'è vero's and 'capisci's. At the beach, in the hotel, underground, everywhere...

Mi piel ha vuelto igual de pálida que la de un fantasma, tal cual se fue, gracias a mis esfuerzos por bajar a la playa bien temprano y para la puesta de sol. Hizo un par de días soleados, unos cuantos más nublados y dos increíblemente tormentosos. La primera tormenta fue de viento, horrorosa; la arena se levantó hasta la altura del tercer piso y parecía una tormenta del desierto. La segunda nos dejó litros y litros de agua en apenas una hora, pero yo me encontraba en ese momento en mi habitación echando una siesta y cuando me desperté ya había parado. Miré alrededor preguntándome: ¿qué pasa? ¿por qué está la calle mojada? ¿qué le ha pasado a la gente que estaba en la playa? ¿por qué está vacía?

My skin came back as ghostly pale as it went, thanks to my efforts on going to the beach only in the early hours or the sunset. We had a couple of sunny days, some more cloudy and two amazing stormy. The first storm was an awful windy one, the sand went up to the 3rd floor like a desert storm - scary! The second one gave us litres and litres of water in less than one hour - but I was taking a nap in my room and when I woke up it already had stopped. I looked around wondering 'what's going on? why is there water on the street? what happened to the people on the beach? why is it empty?'

He tejido cero prendas y me he leído tres libros en diez días. He comido un montón de comida muy rica y he ganado cero gramos (lo cual no es NADA afortunado cuando pesas menos de 45 kg e intentas ganar un poco de peso). He visto a los amigos de la Universidad y asistido a una celebración local en la que un montón de locos borrachos bailan mientras sujetan unas macetas gigantes de albahaca y otros cuantos nos riegan con toneladas de confeti. Y lo más increíble de todo: ¡ahí no había italianos!

I crocheted and knitted zero items and read three books in 10 days. Ate a lot of yummy food and gained zero grams - which is NOT lucky when you weigh less than 45 kg and want to put on some more. Visited friends from University and attended local festivities where lots of drunk crazy people dance on the streets carrying giant flowerpots of basil and some others shower us poor audience with tons of confetti -it was astonishing but there weren't any Italians here!

He ido al cine y me he divertido muchísimo con una historia de juguetes como cualquier niña de 30 años. He dado largos paseos por la orilla del mar y he hecho ejercicio en los columpios para adultos (¡quiero uno para mi casa!). He transportado equipaje pesado escaleras arriba y escaleras abajo de la estación de tren porque el ascensor no funcionaba.

Went to the cinema and enjoyed a toy story like a normal 30 yrs old kid. Took long long walks by the sea shore and exercised at the adults playground (I want one at home!). Carried heavy luggage up and down the train station stairs - the lift wasn't working.

Y ahora, estoy de vuelta en casa. ¡Con las pilas recargadas! :-D

And now, I am home again. Batteries recharged! :-D
