Tsubaki in progress

English

Feliz día de "Reyes atrasados"

To celebrate I just purchased the seventh skein, because once again I misscalculated the yardage (humanities girl here), and the LYS still had the dye-lot I needed despite the pass of time, I am updating the blog today to report the status of my Tsubaki pullover!

Neckline and epaulet shoulder with gathers

Tsubaki (camellia japonica) is an epaulet sleeve pullover with large, gorgeous cables, worked without ever cutting yarn. The construction of this sweater is quite original and clever!

The pullover is worked top-down. The neck band is worked in the round first, then the upper back and shoulder drop are created with short rows at the same time as the gathers on the shoulders.

Yoke, cables and sleeve caps

The yoke and sleeve caps are then worked in the round to the underarm, where the body is set aside. On this picture I was already working on the right sleeve without cutting yarn off the body.

Sleeves and body

The sleeves are worked back and forth and seamed with a special technique, which the designer named zip-up seam. On completion of both sleeves, the body is worked to the hem in the round again. The rounds begin at center back.

Next update on this sweater will show it finished: I am about 3/4 on the body and only 10 cm (4 in) short to get to the hem. Cannot believe I just knitted this pullover away in such little time. It seems obvious nothing can stop me once I set my mind and effort on a task. Now, if you will excuse me, I have a garment to knit. ;-)

Happy "Belated Reyes" day!

      Besos.

    1. Thank you so much, Julie! I had chosen this colour for a friend who loves blue, not for me, but somehow I ended using it instead. :-)
I hope you have a great weekend as well.

      Un besote.

  5. What a beautiful color yarn you are using for the sweater. And how fortunate you were able to buy more of the same dye lot. The pattern looks interesting, too.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, dear T.! I didn't chose the colour but it rather chose me: I purchased it to make baby clothes for a friend's newborn, but in the end this skein was left untouched. Trying to use what I had at home instead of buying new yarn I just ordered more skeins enough to make a (very small) adult sweater. ;-)
I hope you're having a great time in the Foothills!

    1. Thanks, dear Carol! This sweater was finished in just three weeks, my fastest knit. Usually I am more of a relaxed and slow-paced knitter. Too bad the cold is gone and I cannot wear it until next winter.
      Happy 1st day of March!

    1. ¡Gracias, Ana!

    1. ¡Gracias, Mari Carmen! ;-)
