Year in review 2016 & 2017

    Ravelry-2017
    Ravelry 2017

    1. Rehice mi Denim Piperita y me hice prometer que no volvería a intentar modificar diseños a mi antojo.

In 2016 I tightened my belt so tight after feeling guilty for my fat old stash that I ended purchasing only 3 skeins (525 m / 575 yd) that were needed for a certain project. On the other hand I used up 3,002 m / 3,282 yd, which means said stash thinned down a great deal.

    1. Took part in BAMCAL 2016, even if the last square was published this month.
    2. Knit a baby cardigan that didn't find its owner until 2017: Maile Sweater.
    3. Nekane proposed a barter I couldn't resist and this Swallowtail Shawl was made for her.
    4. Crocheted a Baby Teacup amigurumi and some coasters for a swap hosted by Alícia Ganxetades.
    5. Used up all Katia Cancun leftovers to knit a summer Ombre Tank top.
    6. Ventured into crocheted rattles for the first time with the popular Two-legged Bunny, a total success!
    7. Took part in Ravellenics 2016 with a striped shawl and the experience turned out a complete washout. Not yet published, ahem.
    8. And found my true (knitting) love with my first Pastel Baby Rainbow Blanket.

Thanks to all this activity I could reduce my stash although there were still many unmatching single skeins. According to Ravelry statistics:

      • In 2015 I had purchased 1.948 m / 2,130 yd, used up 3.862 m / 4,224 yd and had 18.426 m / 20,150 yd left in my stash.
      • In 2016 I only bought 525 m / 575 yd, gave away 260 m /285 yd  and used up 3.002 m / 3,282 yd, and had 15.689 m / 17,158 yd left in my stash.

This austerity policy about yarn adquisition continued in 2017 and I firmly aimed for a further reduction of my stash, even by knitting, giving skeins or throwing them away. Some of my stashed yarns were more than 5 years old and never had a project planned for them. No sooner said than done! After putting them up for adoption some found a new home and I quietly got rid of others through the back door (and no, weird enough I am not feeling guilty at all).

The lack of pretty yarns and matching skeins caused me to become uninterested in crafting. I hadn't been so reluctant to knit or crochet since I picked up my needles back!

      1. Frogged and started again my Denim Piperita and made a promise to myself not to make modifications on perfectly fine designs.
      2. Not without trying first, in a last attempt, to make some adjustements on an existing design, Tours Raglan Cardigan, knit with recycled yarn. Another total failure for several reasons that I will explain on another post.
      3. Made a new friend on Instagram and I sent her a Pirum Parum.
      4. Fulfilled a promise to my friend Angie and knit a Pastel Rainbow Baby Blanket for her firstborn in autumn after clashing with the LYS ladyowner.
      5. Knit a pair of Saartje Booties matching last year's Maile Sweater with the remaining yarn.
      6. After these two years of self-imposed austerity, finally bought my new camera and stopped saving. I couldn't hold it anymore and purchased a lot of yummy yarns and cast on my coveted Hitofude Cardigan shortly afterwards. Yay! ♥

By the end of 2017 my stash had put on all the weight (and yardage) lost during the summer and some more. This is the current state of my yarn affairs:

      • Used up 1.915 m / 2,095 yd (3.040 m / 3,325 yd total if we include recycled yarn) and gave away 1.434 m / 1,568 yd.
      • Obtained 6.704 m / 7,332 yd (5.396 / 5,900 of them were bought) and have 19.044 m / 20,827 yd in stash.

In conclusion, as we already know, we could say that every strict dieting has a dreaded rebound effect attached. :Þ Nearly 20 km / 12 miles of stashed yarn again! Luckily I have plans for most of the skeins and will start working on their projects soon whereas there is always the back door for the others. ;-)

If you are reading this far, thank you very much and sorry for the dull post!
More pictures and less text next time, promise.

          Besos.

      2. I never count the meters of yarn I use and can never tell how much I used for a project unless I weigh my skeins prior to work and deduct the used weight off of it. I wish I could indulge myself in as many different projects as you.

        1. That is exactly the method I use to count the amount of yarn used for a project: I weigh the remaning yarn and add that data to the corresponding Ravelry page. Then it is up to Raverly to do the maths for me. :-) Maya, you do make a lot of projects throughout the year! I wish I could finish half the amount you do. ;-)
          Have a great week!

      5. Kudos to you for reducing your stash. You made some beautiful items, I especially like the Denim Cardigan and baby booties.

My stash is hidden out of my sight until my knitting injuries heal, but I dream of knitting on a daily basis. I'm hoping to sell a spinning wheel (I'm not a spinner at heart.) and some other things, and if they do sell, I want to purchase a hand-crank sock machine. I heard that a pair of socks can be made with the machine in 2 hours. That may seem like cheating to some, but with my wrists and elbows refusing to knit, the thought is thrilling to me.

        Have a wonderfully chilly week!

        1. I'm sad to hear your knitting injures haven't healed yet. Hopefully they will soon and you'll be able to buy that sock machine. You need to show it to us! I've never seen one and now you got me curious. :-)
Another cold spell is heading to us this weekend after a spring-like week. Stay warm and have a great week!

      6. ¡¡Oooooooooh!!
