Brown Maile Sweater & Saartje Booties

Saartje Booties

¡Chin-chin!

Dicebamus hesterna die —this is, as we were saying yesterday—, the box I got for L didn't only contain the Pastel Rainbow Baby Blanket but there was plenty of room for something else. It is time now, after the mandatory Christmas hiatus, to unveil the mystery. :-)

Maile Sweater
Autumnal maile

I knit this little cardigan last year with a Katia brown yarn that had been in my stash since 2012 hoping to reduce it and make a gift at the same time. However that gift was never given and I ended crocheting Lanuka's cute Conejito Bípedo instead. Things that happen when people keep on being born out of knitting season!

More than that, I always feel restrained because of the stupid colour issue. Is brown fitting for a girl? Would her parents like it? Would her grandmother pick at me? They say brown is one of the less favourite colours out there —just the opposite for me, as I love these shades— and I never know when a present made in brown will be well received or just reluctantly accepted with a flinch of distaste.

Maile Sweater
Not maile but it will have to do

I made sure beforehand testing the waters and asking the mum-to-be and once I knew it would be well received I weaved in ends and added the final touches. Some pearly buttons would make a sweet contrast on this dull-looking yarn. By chance I had some around from the cardigan I frogged last summer. This way my friend's baby will wear something that had been previously mine. :-)

Maile Sweater & Saartje Booties
Autumnal outfit

And since I cannot stay still and there was yarn enough, why not making a matching pair of booties? No sooner said than done! I sewed on the same buttons and the present was complete in just an afternoon. ☆

      ¡Feliz año nuevo! Muaaacs.

  2. The cardigan is precious and so perfect / neatly knit!! What a wonderful gift - on a side note, brown goes quite well over a pastel pink or blue ensemble :), just saying!

    1. Thank you, Maya. That was exactly my point: brown or grey are the perfect match for pastel pink! However few people notice that and fail to combine them neatly. Too bad for them. :-)
      Happy New Year!

  3. Love the darling cardigan and booties. It was brilliant to knit them in the lovely brown.
I like pastels for babies, but they do become predictable and boring. I had never seen the cardigan pattern so thank you for sharing the link.

Every time I visit here I marvel at perfect your English truly is. I had 3 years of Spanish in school yet I rarely understand a full sentence when I read or hear it. Ah well.
Yes, you're entered in the giveaway. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Toni! This pattern is a quick knit and turns out lovely, I highly recommend it. I confess I don't mind pastels for babies (or adults!) but also love brown and can't understand why other people don't. ;-)
Thank you so much for your kindness. My English is far from perfect but I do my best to conceal that fact, haha. ;-)
      Happy New Year!
