On my needles — September

Rainbow Yarn Balls

Aplatanamiento total post vacaciones. ;-)

Muchas gracias por seguir ahí
Feliz día de la Hispanidad

Rippin' n' frogging!

Yes, I didn't go mad nor lost my mind: today I want to explain what I did (not) have on my needles in September because I am not made of stone and sometimes keeping a self-imposed pace turns out to be difficult. I think there is nothing dishonourable in taking a break, stopping, reflecting and starting all over again with fresher ideas and renewed energies.

I came back from the holidays with my Ravellenics project still in progress due to "technical" (ahem) issues but once at home it was finished within a few days. Now what? That was the question. I had nothing to do, did not need any clothes, did not need more blankets, did not know what to give to anyone... I spent several days pondering on this matter. What should I make next?

An upcoming birth around me was an excellent chance to knit for babies. I was sure about one thing: no buying yarns. I must use whatever I have at home. Garments, toys, blanket — it didn't matter as long as stashed yarns were used. After some time musing over, a sudden flash of genius: that blanket I started to crochet on impulse, just because I fancied making something different, and never found shelter because "it was useless" —dear mum is my biggest critic and can be really tiresome with her contempt towards my work whenever she thinks it is not right —all in a graceful way, of course—; that very blanket... what if I ripped it up and used those pretty yarns to make another blanket, a "more useful" and not socially frowned upon one?

No sooner said than done! I wasn't sorrowful at all pulling the yarn. Quite the opposite, I felt relieved and at ease seeing that those leftovers were going to be put to good use after eight years of neglection. What a satisfying feeling after taking that ugly monkey off my back! It was painful to see the unfinished blanket and half-used skeins in my stash waiting for so long, saying "please love us". I was glad not only to knit something useful with them at last but also to get rid of a big bunch of old skeins and be able to make room for new yarns and new projects.

Apart from that, I didn't finish any book, didn't watch any soap opera and didn't do much at all. Total post-holidays blues. ;-)

Thank you for being there!
Happy Columbus Day

  3. I don't want to open my mouth about all those UFO waiting - just like yours for me to have an Eureka moment and actually make something useful, so in this - you are not alone! :)
As I've already said - gorgeous colors and a delicate combination of colors that would e fantastic for that blanket!

    1. I think every crafter has one of these shameful projects hidden in the closet. I am glad to have found the perfect ending for mine and hopefully this new blanket will be cherised by a new mum and her baby. :-)

  4. Yay for taking a break. We all need a break sometime. If it felt good to rip the blanket then it was the right thing to do. I've been doing some ripping, too. Have a great weekend!

    1. That was exactly my feeling when I ripped the old blanket! I have never worked on a project as willingly as I am knitting this new one. The feeling of knowing you are doing the right thing. :-)
Have a nice and cool weekend!

      Un beso.
