On my needles — June

Calcetando

Ombre Tank
Remallando con estilo

1. Terminando la Ombre Tank... ¡a 39º C!

¡Feliz semana!

Not too much to show you this month, I am sinking into lethargy due to the hot weather and living my allergies to the full these past two weeks: no sinuses attacks this year but swollen egg-like eyes every morning when I wake up. Moreover, there is FOOTBALL (association, obviously) and when there is football there isn't life. And I am trying to catch up with the Videogame too. So...

Knitting

Ombre Tank
Grafting in style

1. Finishing my Ombre Tank... at 39º C - 102 F! And there are still people asking me why do I stop knitting in the summer or "try cotton, it is much cooler". Let me tell you this, it is the North Pole that is cooler.

Crocheting

Conejito Bípedo
Crochet nightmare

2. A new amigurumi to make a rattle. Small pieces are not for me. I had to rip it all and start over because of a silly mistake. And you cannot stop looking at the pattern. Grr—

3. June's square for BAMCAL 2016. Thankfully it is small because acrylic yarns make my hands sweat even more. Cannot wait for the autumn! (didn't complain about it today yet)

Bobbing Lace

©Editorial El Drac

4. Immersed in this book about how to make a neat start and ending when working a Point ground lace such as Bucks or Tønder before I embark on my next piece of lace.

Watching

5. Still Sila (Sıla). Soap opera of the year for me, no doubt, even if it is from 2006.

Reading

6. The making of a marchioness by Frances Hodgson Burnett, in Spanish. A wonderful first part and a not so good second one. Victorian literature is not my cup of tea I am afraid.

7. A little princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, in Spanish. I wanted to give this author a second chance since I love 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' but this little princess is even more perfect than the little lord and that is too saccharine for anyone to bear. I think I have had enough of mrs. Burnett for a while.

8. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, in Spanish. Change of subject to shake the sugary prose off. I am not into sci-fi or military stories but I found this book quite entertaining thanks to a philosophical approach. It wasn't that bad just this once.

9. Wilt by Tom Sharpe, in Spanish. Suggested by a fellow Latin speaker. Surreal, absurd and simply unclassifiable.

That is all. This month is just books and sofa, it is hot ouside. And this is just the beginning.
Thank you so much, as always. Have a nice week!

  2. I being a summer child and once a heated and sworn to death lover of summer am having my beliefs slowly cracking. Due to the fast approaching middle age I don't seem to be able to endure the summer heat stoically as I once had. It is still my favourite season though - only I wish I could retreat to an island until September and be able to cool of in a sea somewhere ...
As crafts are concerned, you have many interesting projects piled up. Hope you show them to us when you are done.

    1. I enjoyed the summer much better as a child. At that time it meant no school until September, spending all day outdoors and eating ice-cream. However I live in a zone where the temperatures are uncomfortably high even at night and it doesn't rain for months. It stopped being fun long ago.
Hopefully I will share the top tank and the rattle toy pictures very soon! :-)

  4. You are getting more done on the needles than me. I'm working on another pair of "hateful" socks, but there is so little progress. First, I was sick then careless. Such is life. I've been reading also, and my next book is an historical account of George Washington's Secret Six. It's about a very secret spy ring during the Revolutionary War. History is a good teacher, but a country must have good leaders. We. do. not. have. that. now. May I come to Spain?
    Have a great week!

    1. I wish I would be able to knit socks! My skin is very sensitive and prone to rashes due to the excess of sweat. I would rather take care of my health than risk a visit to the ER just for the sake of knitting anything. ;-)
You're welcome anytime, of course, but are you sure? Our politicians aren't much better. Next Sunday we're going to cast our ballots again because they weren't able to form a government in the past six months (we had our last elections on December). I wish they learnt from history too.
Sorry to hear you were sick. I hope you're better now!

    2. Thanks, much better. I would leave our land in a heartbeat if today was 300 years ago. Actually, We'd sail to the new world and leave politics far behind, but alas, there is no place to go. Most if not all governments are corrupt these days,at least to some extent.

    3. Glad to know that. I was missing our little chit-chat and the bird pictures on your blog. :-)
Let me know if you find a place to go. Maybe I'll join you in the boat —and hopefully it will rain there!

    1. ¡Gracias Elisa!

¡Besotes!
