Piperita & Chamomile

Piperita & Chamomile
Ready for tea

Estoy resfriada.

Lana: tres ovillos y medio de Katia New Cancun beige.
Agujas: 3,00 mm.
Talla: XS.
Patrón: Piperita de al-abrigo.
Modificaciones:

¡Feliz jueves!
Piperita & Chamomile
Ready for tea

I am having a cold. Not a surprise after sweating for more than three months and suffering the consequences of aggressive air conditioners everywhere. Buses and shopping malls must think their customers are penguins not humans. I am SO looking forward to the autumn.

I knit this mid-season cardigan last year but I barely had the chance to wear it because we don't have a season in the middle here: it is just very hot or simply cold. What to do with a laceweight cotton garment then? I am told they have cool summer nights in many places but that is not the case here where you sweat at night as much as in the daytime or even more due to the high humidity. I am not losing my hopes on some cooler and pleasant days before the chilly winter because I want to wear it soon. Just love how it turned out!

This cardigan uses traditional construction: you knit all pieces separately and sew them together but you can easily adapt it to a mostly seamless construction from bottom to underarms which is what I am  planning to do next time (oh yes, there will be a next time). Pattern takes its name from peppermint, the colour Marisa chose for her prototype. As I am not a fan of blue shades I added some chamomile to my tea and this is the result.

Yarn: three skeins and a half of beige Katia New Cancun.
Needles: 3,00 mm / US 2½.
Size: XS.
Pattern: Piperita by al-abrigo (English version available).
Modifications:
  1. sleeves are slightly longer to suit my needs
  2. didn't increase at 7th rep of sleeve to make a thinner cap for my (very thin) arms
  3. totally unintended, both fronts are one rep shorter (12 whole rows!) than the back... Didn't notice until I was sewing the pieces. Fortunately I could conceal it with a little trick. :-Þ

The one thing I didn't like --partly my fault for not modifying it on time-- was the resulting stockinette band without lace pattern at the sides of both seams. Nothing you cannot fix with some planning ahead or, as I said above, knitting in the round. :-)

What did I learn from this project? How to sew set-in sleeves properly. I had done it before in my first knitting project but it didn't turn out nicely. Now I can say I know how to thanks to this tutorial I found in Spanish.

Have a beautiful Thursday!

  1. What a gorgeous, gorgeous sweater! I love it! Marisa's aqua sweater is beautiful, too. I do hope you get to wear it a lot because a sweater like that should be worn a lot. Maybe you could tie the arms around your shoulders on days when it's a bit too warm for it. ;) Americans do that sometimes. I love lace, but I make too many mistakes when I knit lace.
    Have a wonderful day!

    1. Thanks! I loved hers and that's why I wanted to knit mine in some colour I would use (beige is neutral enough to match any of my clothes). Here they do tie the sleeves over their shoulders too but it's still too hot for that, I need to wait a bit more --or maybe start going out at 5 am? ;-)
Now I'm planning to make a second one in another colour with long sleeves for the "almost winter". Not sure about the lace part, I think I like it in plain Stockinette too.
      Enjoy your day too!

    1. Yes, that's how they wear them. I'd have to knit next cardigan with thinner yarn (which is what I'm planning to) to be able to do that.

    1. Thanks! I like these neutral brownish shades a lot. Not very feminine but I could wear them all year long. ;-)
