On my needles — Christmas 2017/2018

Calcetando

Hitofude
Hitofude: el misterio de las agujas retorcidas

¡Y además este año he recibido regalos! ;-)

Muchas gracias por leerme.
Hasta la próxima.

Christmas season has just ended in Spain and this year's has been intense and memorable. I am no Christmas person: don't get me wrong, I love this season, but I don't celebrate it in a lavish manner nor decorate home. I would rather keep it small, cosy and simple.

We don't hold dinners or gatherings at home and we don't exchange presents either. However, family and friends don't agree and wreck our carefully planned home-alone holidays every year. Then we are forced to attend those events and they keep us busy everyday! But hey, is it that bad to be wanting to spend our Christmas holidays quietly relaxed at home?

And to make matters worse La Modistilla Valiente convinced me to take part in a crafting swap —got mixed up yet again!— which I shall tell you about another time. Not only my family had left me little spare time, now I couldn't even sleep if I wanted to get everything done in time!

Thus said, this Christmas I have been...

Knitting

Hitofude
Hitofude or the twisted needles mystery

1. Hitofude, by Hiroko Fukatsu. It is no secret that I am deeply in love with Japanese patterns. Colours, design, sizing... everything fits me flawlessly. This cardigan has been in my knitting queue since it was published in 2013 but I didn't have suitable yarn for it nor the courage to cast on until now. It isn't an easy pattern —there is a graphic proof of my stupidity above— although being as stubborn as mule I am pulling it off.

Crocheting

2. Nothing on my needles, two amigurumis in my head. I had no time to pick up my hooks yet!

Stitching

Stitched Euphorbia Pulcherrima

3. A gift for my Secret Santa Swap España partner, as mentioned before. Coming soon!

Watching

5. Yo soy Betty, la fea (the original Colombian series) a.k.a. why do they call it soap opera when they mean comedy? Probably the best novela ever. I didn't have the chance to watch it until now but it has become an instant favourite and I plan to watch it periodically from now on. I have so many things in common with poor Betty —and a PhD in Economics is not one of them!

It will also go down as my quickest binge watched soap opera: more than 150 episodes in less than a month. ;-)

Reading

6. Les Liaisons dangereuses by . I barely had time to read a page or two these days and it is a pity because this story is simply delightful, but I cannot concentrate in crowded places (this is the book I am currently carrying in my bag). Will I be able to finish it before spring comes? Place your bets!

7. Itinerarium Egeriae, in Latin. You must be wondering where do I find time to read in Latin when I cannot even do that in my mother tongue. However, yours truly is a diligent girl (trying) slowly reading with the help of a dictionary the travelling notes of a Roman lady during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the 4th century.

No quiet holidays for me, as you can see. And I got presents! I must have been a very good girl to get them without deserving any when I didn't even write my letter to Their Majesties. But that is another story and shall be told another time. ;-)

Thank you so much for visiting.
See you next time.

  1. Alhana, I love the showing pattern on your cardigan. I, too am crazy about Japanese patterns, but only the crochet ones. I haven't touched my knitting needles in eons and don't think I would any time soon.

    1. Thanks, Maya! Japanese patterns are the best, be it knitting, crocheting or stitching. Even the best lace-making artists are Japanese, did you know that? I enjoy knitting very much but also miss working with my crochet hooks. Hopefully I'll fix that soon. :-)
      Have a great week!

  3. EVERY time I've knitted lace I have similar experiences so I stopped trying. LOL
Love the new lace bookmark? Gifts, reveling and much drinking are common here during the Christmas season, but we don't take part in any of it. We would rather read good books.
Love the cardigan pattern. Have a great week!

    1. After all these years I can manage lace knitting but modern techniques instructions sound Greek to me. How could I end reversing the knitting direction? No idea —it happened twice, by the way. lol
Spanish Christmas is all about eating, family gatherings and spending time with relatives, much like American Thanksgiving. And there's no escape to that, no matter how hard I try. ;-)
We're under a cold spell here, snow almost everywhere. Have a great week and stay warm!

      Besotes, Modistilla Paciente. ;-)
