The end of an era

Bienvenida a casa.

20 years ago I had to give up Photography in University after the first semester because I lacked equipment. A SLR was required for second semester but I didn't own one nor could afford buying it. Even second hand cameras prices were forbidding, my scholarship couldn't even pay 10% of the cheapest one.

That marked the beginning of the end. Giving up an annual subject meant losing 18 credits. Losing those credits meant not reaching the minimum required. The following semester I was at the end of the queue choosing courses and couldn't enrol for Graphic Design —at that time there were few computers in my Faculty and only 15 or 30 open spots per year whereas hundreds of students coveted them.

Choosing subjects from another branch of Arts in which I wasn't interested led me to stop attending class. To lose credits yet again. To be at the end of the queue for another year. To not being able to enrol for Graphic Desing. And back to start all over again until the dreaded moment arrived: I completely gave up my studies.

All this time I haven't stopped thinking about the camera and wishing to have one. Wanting to know if it really was worth the cost. Wondering what would have happened if things had been different. Year after year, gazing at them through the shop windows and telling myself that it only was a passing fancy, that I didn't need one... until today.

Welcome home.

  3. ¡Ayyy, chiquilla!

    1. Y a mí me emocionan tus palabras, mi querida Dácil Miyagi.

  4. Congratulations! From what I've read the Nikon D3300 is a very good camera.

When I got a new camera last year several people advised me to get a Canon, but I opted for a Nikon, and I'm glad I did. ;)

    1. Thank you very much, Toni! 'La Modistilla Valiente' (see comment above) recommended this one. It's a wonderful camera, can take sharp photos indoors without a problem even if the room is as dark as my batcave. I'm glad I opted for Nikon too. ;-)
Have a great week & stay warm!

  6. It is worth it! You may not have had the opportunity to have the formal training that you desired, but you have the eye. You always did. And now, you have been granted the opportunity to explore the world through the lens of a DSLR. Congratulations my friend!

      Besos.
