Christmas Biscornu

English

¡Shhh!

Muchas gracias por leerme.
♥♥♥ Feliz Navidad ♥♥♥

I am not a fan of Christmas items, you may have noticed there aren't many Christmas projects here on the blog. Actually I don't even decorate at home and don't like seasonal items that would be displayed for a few days and stored away for months. Too much trouble and a waste of money and time, in my opinion. However once in a blue moon I come across a nice swap and join in the fun like I did in 2009 and start hunting for the perfect little Christmas project that could be used during the rest of the year (yep, pigheaded, I know).

In 2011 I joined a swap on Ravelry and I made this simple biscornu that could be used either as decoration or pincushion. I didn't post it before because I was too preoccupied with Life back then and the only photo I took before sending it to England fell into oblivion. My swap partner sent me a lovely knitted angel doll but I don't have a picture of it yet because the batcave is really dark in December — little wonder as today it is the shortest day of the year! But of course there will be pictures soon.

Christmas Biscornu
Seasonal happy pincushion

The design is very simple. This time I made both front and back complete (I usually simplify the back stitching only the corners) and added some beads. Some years have passed and now I can see all the small mistakes I made: should have used a double strand to get thicker stitches, the assembling stitches are tugging at the seams... Little things I only noticed after time passed and I acquired some experience in cross-stitching. The love I put in each one of them is the same though. ♥

Fabric: 18 count Aida.
Thread: Anchor Mouliné.
Size: 8 x 8 x 3 cm. (3" x 3" x 1 1/4")
Other: ten red beads for corners and centre.

Now I must leave: the end of the year is fast approaching and I have a pair of socks asking to be finshed before Dec. 31st. Shhh!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Oh, the biscornu/pincushion is really beautiful! Redwork is so pretty, and the beads add such a nice touch, too. You have many talents with needles of all sorts.

Sometimes pigheadedness is a good thing. (Your English is wonderful!) We are all different and shouldn't be compelled to do the same things as everyone else. Variety is much more interesting.

Can't wait to see the finished socks. Stay warm!

    1. Thank you! You mean my dictionary, right? ;-)
I enjoy making these pincushions. Although I appreciate decorations and other gifts, I'd rather give something useful so the present won't end forgotten or worse, disposed of.
      Now off to knit!
