TEJUCA Blanket

Last Tuesday night fell in the middle of the afternoon, the sky struck twice and suddenly opened: SPLASH! The street got flooded in just 15 minutes... It rained a lot for two or thee hours and the temperatures went down a few degrees. Autum had come for real! I was lucky because this time the water didn't flood inside and I had a wonderful evening. Later I had to grab a blanket from the wardrobe, the bed clothes weren't enough for the chilly night. Oh the joy!

Spring spread

It was the perfect time to use my new blanket for the first time (last year I just used old ones), with its knit fabric lining, that took me so much effort. For those of you who are curious, just take a look at my tejuca tag to read about this story and the two years it took me to finish despite being a two-months project only. Other projects and two scorching summers crossed my path but I am so happy, so very happy with it that even if it had taken me ten years I would be in love with my blanket.

TEJUCA Blanket Back Lining
Butterflies Hearts Flowers

I didn't want to wave in so many ends after sewing umpteen tiny granny squares (I couldn't join them somehow else since it was a surprise CAL and I had no idea where the pattern was heading to) so I opted to line it. I was extremely lucky and it makes me fall in love with it again and again because I found the perfect fabric: knit, soft and stretchy, with the same colours I had used on the blanket and a little hearts, flowers and butterflies print —the same motifs I had crocheted!

TEJUCA Blanket Bud
Cute bud

Sewing only the borders wasn't an option. How could I leave a loose lining? However I couldn't sew them together same as if it was a quilt either, too laborious for a crochet blanket that had taken me too much effort already. I chose the shortest way: yes to the sewing but only in a few strategic spots, enough to prevent both fabrics to part ways without having to quilt everything. And this is how those twelve little crochet buds were born to both embellish the back of my cutieblanket and conceal the attaching. I wanted to make some small flowers at first but later changed my mind to the buds to keep them simpler and let the print pop out.

TEJUCA Blanket Folded
It folds nicely ♥

Isn't it super pretty?! Say yes, please. Finally I can say I made a patchwork quilt —even if it is only crocheted! But I am afraid I won't be joining Sonieta in one of her huge challenges for a looong time. Does anyone want to make a blanket like this? I will tell you more about the pattern, edging and lining in another post. Now the sun is shining bright after the storm and I am off for a walk —wearing a cardigan, mind you, the evenings are chilly. ♥

    1. ¡Gracias!

  2. Oh, how lovely! Your blanket is really beautiful. It looks like a quilt but has so much more texture. And lining it with that cute knit fabric was just brilliant. I'm tempted to make one for myself.
Isn't it wonderful to need a thick cover on your bed. I'm loving our wonderful fall weather.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Those of us who can't sew can make crochet faux patchwork! ;-)
I didn't like it at all when I was making it, too many little squares and too much yarn "wasted" (or so I thought), it became an ugly UFO in the basket. But it changed the moment I made the colourful edging! It framed the design very nicely, the colours popped out and I was so pleased with it. Lining was a great choice even if I had to work more on it. My favourite blanket so far! ♥

Fall is simply the best season —that perfect weather and yummy comfort food.
A great weekend to you too!

    1. Honestly, I couldn't be more thankful to have left the summer behind. This one was by far the worst one and drained all my energy. As a true autumn girl I am reborn everytime after September 23rd. ;-)

I'm glad you like it! Nowadays I rarely crochet and I miss it but I'm very proud of this no-so-little one. xoxo

  6. I say it is worth the effort and the time you spent working on this blanket because it is gorgeous! I think lining the blankets is a super idea - I've done it with two of my baby blankets - I used fleece as lining and they turned out fantastically. The mothers who received them fell in love with the softness :)

    1. Thank you! I have some blue fleece with children's print for a future baby blanket but I wanted something a bit less warm for mine so I can use it during autumn and spring too —weather where I live is pretty hot during most part of the year. Luckily someone will be needing it soon and I can start working on it, the crochet bug has bitten me again! :-)
