TEJUCA Blanket Pattern & Details

Manta terminada

Lana: Katia Fama en lila, violeta, rojo oscuro, rojo claro, verde oscuro, verde claro, azul oscuro, azul celeste, salmón y crudo, 100% acrílico.
Ganchillo: 3,5 mm.
Tamaño: 170 x 120 cm.
Patrón: Mystery CAL Tejuca 2012 del blog Muñecos de Tela. Borde propio. Ver esquemas a continuación. ↓
Notas

Finished blanket

How do you feel about DST? I don't know about others but I am delighted when it ends. Both my body and mind feel much better. This is the true solar time. Most people are feeling blue with these shorter days but I am full of energy.

As I said on last post (didn't want it to be super long and split it in two) today I am sharing with you my project's pattern and details. The name, TEJUCA, is the acronym for "Tejiendo juntas con Angel", a mystery KAL created by this girl who sent us the clues by email. When we were finished we found out the crochet blanket was inspired by a patchwork quilt with pretty motifs. Oh the joy of having made my first quilt!

But enough of chit-chat and on to the details:

Yarn: 100% acrylic Katia Fama in mauve, purple, dark red, light red, dark green, light green, dark blue, light blue, salmon and off-white.
Hook: 3,5 mm / US E.
Size: 170 x 120 cm (67" x 47")
Pattern: Mystery CAL Tejuca 2012 from blog Muñecos de Tela. Edge by me. See diagrams below. ↓
Notes
  • Grannies are 6 cm (2.5"), same as border. Mine are 3-row grannies but if you use thicker yarn and suitable hook a 2-row granny will do and you will crochet it faster.
  • Stems are "crochet-sewn" with chain stitch

Pattern

Border

1) I made a preparation row around the blanket with off-white using this trick between grannies to get a flat border:

© Akiyo Kano (akiyokano.com)

  1. 1 dc in last ch space
  2. 1 dc2tog split between last ch space and first ch space of next granny
  3. 1 dc in first ch space of next granny

2) Then I crocheted 6 rows around with colour yarns I liked the most or had enough in stash:

Shells on the shore

3) Last I crocheted a shell border using the same colour from the previous row:

Finishing

To finish it I chose the prettiest fabric, lined my blanket and we lived happily ever after. And that's all folks! Thank you so much for reading this long and chaotic post which I hope helps and inspires you to make your own blanket. Don't hesitate to leave me a comment if you have any doubt or suggestion! ♥

  1. Hello from the foothills of the most glorious mountain range in the USA. (I'm very biased.;)
I enjoyed another look at your beautiful blanket with the gorgeous lining! I think the best part of this project was your idea of lining it. Thank you for posting the charts. I'm taking a copy to remind me just in case I decide to start a project that will take me years to finish. Btw, I must be a chaotic sorta of peep because I didn't see chaos in this post. LOL! Have a wonderfully cool week!

    1. I don't know about other mountain ranges but I agree! (must be biased because of you) ;-)

The truth is I wasn't very happy while crocheting: it was very hot in the summer and we were rushed by the deadlines, I felt overwhelmed. When I reluctantly finished it I didn't like the result, the only thing I could think was "all that yarn and effort wasted for this". But everything changed the moment I picked it up again and made the colourful edge. It was so beautiful that lining it was a must! ♥

Then I must be a neat freak but I can't see the post tidy enough. lol
      Have a great autumn week!
