A thin line between love and hate (I) — Deep Water

Deep Water
Adiós, muy buenas
English

NO.

Agujas: 5,00 mm.
Talla: XS.
Patrón: Deep Water de Cecily Glowik MacDonald (en inglés).

Deep Water
Never missed, deeply forgotten

This could have been a beautiful love story between a knitter and her garment if it hadn't ended up badly. I fell for Deep Water by Cecily Glowik MacDonald because, let's face it, it looked adorable. It is somehow different, double-breasted but open in the waist and seemed utterly perfect for wearing over a shirt on cool but not so cold spring days, same as the famous February Lady Sweater.

Wrong.

The yarn I chose, for starters, was thinner than the pattern asked for. No problem: check your gauge, rule of three, calculate the stitches you need and knit the size that corresponds, right? No. The cardigan turned out too small to wear over anything. I soaked, pressed and carefully blocked it to no avail. Far from improving, the yarn washed out so much that aside from having nightmares about dyed water in the basin a bath towel got ruined and even today it sports a pair of green sleeves printed on pink.

However, the worst part was the collar. No matter where you place the buttons (there is a hidden one on the inside and the one you see is just for decoration) it will not look like the model's. A bit higher, a bit lower, to the centre... I tried everything and—NO. The collar was a complete fail and the cardigan didn't have an adequate drape, was too open, didn't cross properly, too tight at the shoulders. Everytime I tried it on it seemed smaller and smaller.

Happy needles at work

After a year and a half hidden in the closet, I decided to put it to an end and rip it. Of course, I took a picture for the record before that. Now my yarn and I are having a happy relationship knitting this sweater. The power of recycling! :-)

  1. Oh no, that's too bad about the sweater! You really did a great job on the knitting. I think we have a near same reaction when our knitting doesn't go well - stuff it out of sight for a year or twenty. I do hope it turns out right this time. Yay for recycling!
Two days ago it was warm, now it's freezing again. It's our weather roller-coaster.
    Have a great Wednesday!

    1. Yes I think so, we're similar about that. Fortunately the sweater is a smooth knit and I'm very happy about how it's turning out. I'm trying to speed it up so I can wear it before the cold weather goes away --we just reached our peak and hope it gets warmer everyday. :-)

    1. Tamaño Barbie no, tamaño Pinypon...
Curiositat...
