Wedding handkerchief -finished!

Bobbin lace stand

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... That is, two summers ago.

I was working on my first "serious" lace: close to the window, holding 110 pairs of bobbins that drove me crazy and using a thread too thick for a too small and badly copied pricking. I thought about giving up many times, cut those threads and forget this piece. Maybe starting something new or just switching over to thinner thread.

But in the end I finished the lace and sewed it. Here is my wedding handkerchief! Brideless. :-)

And Handlace Solo

FYI, the handkerchief was carefully ironed before this photo shoot. It won't lay flat no matter what I do and stays ruffled due to the thicker thread I used —cotton nº 30. Oh well.

  3. And what a finish it is - your handkerchief is very, very beautiful!! Love the reference to Star Wars, but the lace is much nicer than than the fictional story. And don't give up hope on the handkerchief finding a bride, just hold out for a fabulous groom. ;)

    1. Thank you very much! The reference to Star Wars was mandatory since I consider this art as the Dark Side of the Crafts. ;-) Addicting, lot of work but highly rewarding. I don't regret joining!

  5. The wedding handkerchief is stunning to say the least. Bride or no bride, this piece is gorgeous. Use it anyways. :-)

p.s. Not sure, but would starching it help? I'm not sure how pliable it's supposed to be, but I just wondered, especially if you choose to use it as a mat or a framed piece.

    1. I have no use for it. As my mom ironically says: "perfect for blowing your running nose when you've caught a cold!" But I like opening the drawer and seeing it on top of the bed linens. Its job is just to look nice. :-)

Starching won't help at all. In fact, it's so stiff that it looks as though it was over starched. There are too many twists and crosses on the thread, both my fault while working and also because of the quality of the cotton thread I used. Lace is supposed to be airier. Oh well, next time. ;-)

      Thank you!!
